Fiery fourth news of the world

Some fourth of July happenings, abbreviated for space and time.. and because you don't have time to read it all--not the guts to view the worst of the worst on a day that should celebrate the best of the best in the United States (where the majority of my hits come from and where I live) .. But besides that, here's a few headlines taking shape and making waves:

Hurricane Arthur made landfall as a strong storm in North Carolina in the early hours of Fourth of July.. Heavy rain, high winds, and rip currents will grace the entire day for those affected by the storm along the East Coast.. At that point, Nova Scotia may be the next in line for strong winds and flooding.. according to reports live from the scene, the state dodged most of Arthur's bullet because the hurricane cracked limbs and rattled homes, but then left the scene..

Let's contemplate the serious nature of this news for a moment: Drug resistant TB, dengue fever, and Ebola, are now all in the United States. Various places.. various diseases--and the immigration nightmare currently taking place in the deep south can only make negative thoughts prevail that only unmitigated diseases will be trouncing through your back yard one day soon.. Also enter this onto your picture: The United Nations is warning that Ebola could become a worldwide pandemic. We already know it's out of control in Africa.. but could it get the rest..? When you see other stories like this you realize it could: There is already a fear of Western medicine in parts of Africa, the disease is spinning completely out of control, borders have been eliminated, and the race is now on to find 1,500 people or so how have the disease and are gone..

As horrified classmates look on, a student's mother stabs the teacher to death in front of the class.. This occurred in France. It is a big deal in that nation, with violence like this in schools rarely making news there..

Privacy watchdog files a complaint against Facebook ..

People seem to worship the humor, or supposed humor, that Melissa McCarthy's movies have.. Until Rex Reed at the New York OBSERVER wrote this blistering piece on how her new film was as funny as a liver transplant.. Really, it is a review that sticks a knife deeply into the McCarthy style of movie acting..

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.. or the pit: A college is giving girls extra credit to stop shaving their armpits..

What would Jesus think?? Tyler Perry wins the battle and the patent on 'what would Jesus do?'

Joan Rivers rips into the First Family.. she called Obama gay and said Michelle is a Tranny.. And funny enough, the Michelle Obama transsexual rumors have been around online in conspiracy forums for some time, with people analyzing her arm muscle mass and her facial structure.. Concerning Obama, early on the GLOBE and other supermarket tabloids that most people don't admit to reading while they are waiting in grocery store lines reported that President Obama, then not a president, was busy making love to men in the backseats of limos .. And now Joan Rivers finally picked up on all this and created a controversy by saying it.

This is very interesting: Criminal charges have been filed against the producers of the film MIDNIGHT RIDER.. that film was shut down after the crew was told to walk a train track. Trains were 'done' for that day. Then a crew member was killed on the tracks as a train actually showed up .. The LA TIMES reports on the criminal charges and asks if this will make the film industry take the safety of cast and crew members more seriously. My short answer: IT WON'T..

An FYI on DELIVER US FROM EVIL.. I have been notating some people who say the movie is the best horror in years. But judging from the scorecard at Rotten Tomatoes, that could not be further from the truth. A dismal 33% current approve of the film.. I didn't see it yet. But I intend on it.

It's my hope that you will have an amazing day, recall the notion  behind America, and watch fireworks blaze as they soar high above your head.. as fireflies take flight and light up the night.

A few odds and ends..

This was the ending of my local town's fireworks show last night:

Don't think anyone was hurt, the newspapers today had nothing even about the explosion. It happened during the grand finale.. a massive explosion and the heat from it was actually able to be felt from my family's position. I posted the photo on Facebook, and someone who is 'in the know' with the fire department said "that was awesome!!!"  That leads me only to assume that no one was hurt and it was quite the laugh session.

But to think such a potentially disastrous moment of pyrotechnics is funny is to assume no dangers will ever happen to you. Clearly they never watched the early 1990s Clinton Administration oddity of blowing up mannequins, broadcast on CSPAN and now oin GIF form:



Today is also the first release of a horror movie on the Fourth of July weekend in 30 years--DELIVER US FROM EVIL. It looks amazing and I hope to be able to see it soon.. For those who did see it already, most appear to agree that it's the best horror movie in decades..

And finally. . . today is the day to sing happy birthday to the nation we love. But why do we love it?

THE THIRD OF JULY FIREWORKS

Fourth of July eve.. a smattering of news from the planet earth and beyond. Presented without fanfare or fireworks, ragged flags or post-industrial-America consternation. Just the facts ma'am. With random sentences of personal opining thrown in for fun.

Here is what I care about today, and perhaps what you should, too

The East Coast has been watching for a few days.. and now plans will be changed. Tropical Storm Arthur became a hurricane just in time for the Fourth of July.. It wasn't born on the fourth of July but it will be dangerous on it.. Thus far we know this: The storm is strengthening.. Hurricane hunters have been investigating. The pressure is dropping and winds have increased--80mph, up from 75.. the movement is shifting North Northeast.. The turn is beginning, which promises much of the storm to stay above land and the other portion, the outer bands, to strike the outer banks.. Continue to watch this storm as it develops. Vacationers are fleeing.. A reminder for not only the Fourth of July but also every day if your life: Here are the all important 'dirty dozen' food items--the products that should be healthy but have been made awful by modern food conglomerates.. You are probably better off spending the splurge and buying organic when it comes to apples, carrots, green beans and cucumbers.. your long term health may thank you for it.. < Fourth of July thoughts.. maybe after all these 200+ years of American freedom, something has gone awry.. something very violent and dark has entered society's fabric? Perhaps the decline of America is accelerating. Look no further than this story of a 2-year-old beautiful child named Kamiya French. She was 2. And she was shot in the face as a revenge killing as retribution for an April shooting that wounded three people outside of a night club. You are broken America.. it's time for a long look in the mirror and a true and deep discussion over what went wrong, why which quickening occurred, and what we can do it about it before the next American birthday makes us all grayer, more violent, more heartless, and more broken. ANOTHER lightning bolt strikes New York City! US warns of 'specific threat' at Uganda airport.. It's been 30 years since a horror movie has been opened at the box office during the Fourth of July weekend. . this year, it's DELIVER US FROM EVIL, the scary film about a cop in New York City battling demons and paranormal entities. Horror fans have described it as the scariest and best horror movie in decades.. NIKKI FINKE is predicting a number 3 opening for the movie.. Best of the weekend will still be TRANSFORMERS by all accounts.. the almost dominant movie will dominate even more.. Experts predict only $20 mil for DELIVER US FROM EVIL for the weekend. I actually predict that number is too low.. watch for it to move and shake.. Could it be the summer sleeper? The horror movie that could? Yes... fans have tired of the supernatural genre. But this movie seemingly dares to be different.. and if doesn't work for you, PURGE 2 comes to theaters later in the hot month of July.. The African country where compasses go haywire.. TB CENTRAL: Four more students at Grant Union High School in Sacramento have contracted active TB. Perhaps this is a story best left for the 'tin foil' section of this site, but there was an amazingly fun and scary Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis the other night.. Remember those weird iPhone problems where SIRI would tell us the gates of hades were opening on July 27 2014? We are almost to that date.. and Clyde explained how those gates may actually have been opened. Listen to the show if you get the chance--in the dark would be appropriate. And if you forget the SIRI weirdness from late 2013, here's a quick video reminder courtesy archived content on YOUTUBE.. An update on our story from Mexico last week of the girl who became 'possessed' by using a Quija board.. Turns out she also took a shamanic drug to contact her dead parents.. 26 Japanese school girls fall ill and a mass panic attack is suspected to be the culprit.. According to the strange reports from the Fukuoka Prefecture, the girls became sick during class and school ended up being closed for the rest of the day. Even more: According to Yanagawa High School, a private school in the city of Yanagawa, a first-year student suddenly shrieked in the middle of a class and fell down at about 10 a.m. Two other students in the class fell into a similar state soon afterward, followed by students from other classes who came to check on the incident. Some of the students turned pale, though the exact cause of their sickness was not known.. It’s amazing to see the amount of conflagration across the planet earth right now. in 1914, there was a ‘shot heard around the world’ as Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated.. that event was the historical blame for the trigger that began World War I—the ‘war to end all wars.’ The end never came.. but a second world war did.. 

Will the events of 2014, one hundred years on, lead to world war 3? Are we ripe for another strange occurrence to electrify the current charge of the planet? 

There seem to be so many battles right now, and so many needless deaths. Brutal, and disgusting kills.. sickening events as the devil incarnate advances throughout the continents of the planet.

But…what will be that ‘trigger’ that begins the next big conflict? The war to end all wars, 21st century style?

Back under the dome.. maybe this season will at least start a bit better: Stephen King apparently wrote episode 1..
UNDER THE DOME returns tonight to CBS at 10pm. This time, according to Stephen King himself, no one under the dome is safe.. but will we be safe to watch? The original season was awful.. Maybe this go around a new and more vibrant DOME awaits. King writes.. We will see.

Don't get me wrong.. it's great to see King's books make it on TV... But the first season of UNDER THE DOME was as bad as his book--I never liked it, as a matter of fact, it perhaps was my least favorite among his many.

But... I am going to watch SEASON 2 with hope.. hope that things improve and life under the dome is weirder, creepier, and more laden with better acting.

Bourbon Street shootings making tourists uneasy.. 9 shot.. Two gunmen being sought.. How airplanes once were: Prime rib, cocktail lounges, and piano bars. Plus comfortable seating in coach. Amazing how with 'safety' and improvements made, all the fun places dive ..no pun intended. Really, though, shouldn't this be how all air travel should be? Filled with excitement of the friendly skies, cold adult beverages, hot food, and great music? Instead.. we have the current state of the system: Baked in the naked body scanners with touchers touching the most private parts searching for bombs in your bodily exits, tight seating, and not even peanuts anymore.
