Autism and preeclampsia: A new study examines
The latest possibility of why autism happens comes from a study appearing in JAMA pediatrics .. .. it gives evidence that preeclampsia is the cause and that the events taking place in the womb at 20 months holds the key.. In essence, people on the spectrum were more than twice as likely to have been exposed in utero to preeclampsia..
Or so the latest study says .
I think this is worth more explanation and investigation..
NORTH KOREAN CHRISTMAS GIFT? MORE SONY UPHEAVAL AS MORE SATURDAY HACKS CONTINUE
From Ryan Gajewski at THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER:
Hackers released a seventh cache of files leaked from Sony Pictures Entertainment on Saturday, along with a promise of more to come.
Someone claiming to be a member of hacking group Guardians of Peace sent an email to journalists that listed two web addresses where new Sony information could be found.
The email also said that a "Christmas gift" would be arriving soon that will "put Sony Pictures into the worst state." Countless Sony files, revealing everything from embarrassing email threads to salary details, have been released online following a Nov. 24 cyberattack on the studio.
According to Recode, the newest batch of files includes a PowerPoint presentation given about Sony-backed video site Crackle.
Clearly the GOP realizes one thing: The media has eaten up the treasure trove of racist and juicy emails from Pascal and Rudin..
This site, and others, having been covering the SONY hack in depth.. There have been a number of twists..turns.. moments of shock. Emails of scorn.
Jolie got chicken pox..
Leo is 'despicable.'
Will Smith? Jayden? No kind words..
Pascal got Sharpton's rocks..
THE TRUTH ROCKS.. IT'S A BRUTAL WORLD AFTER THE HACKS ATTACK HACKS..
But HOLLYWOOD hacks at Sony are going to have a very brutal Christmas season..
Just as their movie THE INTERVIEW gets set for Christmas, it appears this GOP group will wage even more cyber terror on investors and egos before the mistletoe gets hung..
So .. back to the question I keep asking.. an act of war??
THE HACK ATTACK: IMPLICATIONS AND CYBER WAR AS SONY SUSPENDS FILMING
Sony suspends filming. And lots of other sordid truths now streaming out after hack attack »
Sony Pictures, which made the James Bond and Spider-Man films has abandoned shoots after hackers crippled its computers and leaked four films
This is huge..
The news is being submitted to the masses by THE TIMES in the UK.. The reason, so the story goes, is because all of the hacking implications have now led SONY unable to process payments..
There are some other bits of news that join this headline about Sony today, including the news that Angelina Jolie cannot attend an UNBROKEN premiere because she has developed Chicken Pox!..
The brutal hack attack is doing a lot more hurt to credibility of not only SONY but other power players too.. Like Maureen Dowd, who according to leaked documents now being seen promised to show her column to Amy Pascal’s husband before publication.. Perhaps no ethical boundary was crossed, though? Dowd denies she did this. Sure the documents show she was going to, but now Maureen is in damage control..
With all of this information now becoming public—and more and more every day—SONY employees just got a message on their computers. From the hackers! According to an article appearing in THE WRAP, a new warning message was sent to computers.. the article dubbed it ‘ominous’. Several staffers who got the message, the WRAP says, felt disturbed after reading it..
Just to think back for a bit. This entire news cycle of hacking mania began when the Guardians of Peace delivered movies not released yet to the public after their hack job.. It wasn’t until days later that more of the drips and drabs of info was spilled. Racist emails between execs.. Dowd’s denials.. most of SONY pictures computers now offline to the point where payments cannot be processed. Social security numbers released. Families of employees getting threatening messages.. All because of THE INTERVIEW?
North Korea?
Still so many unanswered questions..
And investors have just got to be watching this.
I have asked many times over since this story developed that, if North Korea is linked and proof is evident that the nation state was behind the hack job and subsequent further hackings and warnings, then what? Is this an act of war? Cyber war is how the future’s games are going to be played.. does America respond? Did we already?
Clandestine efforts may be made in the aftermath of the PR and criminal disaster now hitting SONY.
But follow up responses may not matter when payments aren’t made, the talent cast trust the employers, and the public sees the true secrets of Tinseltown’s most ugly players.
This SONY hack attack has more implications than anyone could have imagined last month. Then it made a blip on the evening news.. A few movies released by hackers.
Today… so much more is happening. So much more of cyber war..
I have a feeling we are only seeing the opening credits in this long movie.
Goodbye retail hell
There is no use crying over spilled ice, the winter has just begun and the cold times ahead are coming..
But a huge number of stores crying today, I actually had the day off from work and decided to go to a few different shopping venues .. My prime objective of the day: finish Christmas shopping for some, start for others.
I did not get too far, I walked the in the various stores, struggled to find the perfect item for anyone, and for the most part left each place empty-handed and frustrated.
While regrouping, I downloaded the Amazon.com app--I know I'm behind the times.
Let me first say this: a friend summed my Internet life up this way: I was ahead of the curve until the year 2004, became stagnant, and now have fallen way behind. He's right! I think about it, lamenting malls as they die and hoping for retail to make a comeback, and realize now that it won't. It is beyond unrealistic to assume that any positive news will come out of this year's shopping seen for retail stores ..
The jig is up, the writing is on the wall, the end is nigh.
I realized that today. I saw the writing clear, I saw Christmas decorations from the late 20th century still hanging. I heard antiquated Christmas music playing over loudspeakers, being broadcast to empty malls with eerie echoes cascading through the large caverns of retail hell--infernos where no one burned, but boredom killed.
Indeed it is over.
Today, a day which will live in infamy. I am leaving the retail shopping scene..
It's frustrating to think that you travel for miles to get to a location which was once the central point of shopping. Now you're lucky to be able to get tacky crafts or pointless momentos. Things that no one wants, things that no one really even appreciates or needs. Just crap. And not much of a choice of crap, but a bare bones minuscule sampling it.
Yes indeed, this is what retail has become. It cannot be supported anymore, the future is not right for it, online is how it will be.
I think I fully understand now why brick and mortar stores are being vacated. They are abhorrently pointless.. They are time consuming and, when you know you can find the exact thing you want with just one click an a speedy delivery, they have became antiquated and tiresome..
I am half sad letting retail go, have liberated.
I held in too long. It's 2014, and I still had this nostalgic belief that malls could make a return to fame, take possession of a new generation, and become relevant again.
Instead I saw shoppers--smaller than any year previous--appearing like bored zombies as they struggled to find a gift. They were oping for nonsense over substance, because that's what happens when you are oven good options or fiber products.
I welcome my online consumption.
I mays ever consider getting groceries delivered by drone when that can happen.
Meanwhile ..
Goodbye retail. It was real.
Now it's virtual.
Goodbye.
THE TOO LATE SHOW
This will be a milestone for the country. I really mean that.
Letterman may not be really all that funny anymore, but he was once so cutting edge that he was sharper than new knives. He was inventive and ironic..
I was at a taping of the LATE SHOW in the early 2000s.. Not impressed completely by that but still amazing to be in the Ed Sullivan theater.
I grew up watching Letterman. Ever since, as a kid, I read the Frank Miller DARK KNIGHT I was inspired to figure out who the pop culture icon was featured in the comic:
I fondly recall Friday nights, staying up late, watching LATE NIGHT and then LATE SHOW when he switched networks..
I also had a secret in school. Not many other kids really knew who Letterman was, so I would set my VCR each night to record his show. The next morning, before school, I watched his skits and copied some of the humor off of it, doing the same types of things at school that day. No one ever knew.
Until now.
Regardless, the whole thing changes on May 20 next year. Letterman will ride off into the sunset, and become the next biggest talk show host since Carson to leave television. Will Bette Midler kiss him, too?
I am not so sure about Stephen Colbert.. the jury is out.
But on Letterman, my decision was that he redefined late night comedy.
Now someone has to redefine it again. I don’t think it’s Colbert.
I personally have always believed whichever network chose a woman to host a late night comedy show was going to be the one that redefined it. And that has yet to happen..
Fear the future reaper
But she is not the only one who fears upcoming upheaval. I do, too. Technology’s advancements and human beings’ changes are occurring mighty quickly lately. No more slow drips of progress.. these days we are printing in 3D everything from houses to lungs and the future, oh that future, appears to be muddled in some kind of puddle transhumanism/eternal health and happiness.
Regardless of the niceties to come, there are reasons to fear.. When certain governments use progress to hurt society that is awful. When corporations hate their customer and worker, that is equally unfair..
In a sense, robotic advancements on their own are neither moral or immoral. A robot lacks a soul, it lacks the consciousnesses of life.. We think at least. But let’s go with the idea that they do.. When human beings, rife with more good and evil thoughts, get a hold of the robot, bad things can happen.
A robot can be used to build a house.
Or destroy an entire village of women and children in a war.
Take you pick.
On the fear concept, we are hearing from Google’s Eric Schmidt. He says to embrace the brave new world of the artificial future..don’t fear the reaper.
WIRED reports in more detail. Issie Lapowsky writes,
According to Schmidt, people have been concerned about machines taking over the world for centuries. “Go back to the history of the loom. There was absolute dislocation,” he said, “but I think all of us are better off with more mechanized ways of getting clothes made.” Plus, he argued, in the past economies have prospered the more they adopt these new technologies. “There’s lots of evidence that when computers show up, wages go up,” he said. “There’s lots of evidence that people who work with computers are paid more than people without.”
The real threat, he believes, is that education systems around the world aren’t teaching their students the skills they need to work together with these increasingly intelligent machines. “The correct concern,” Schmidt explained, “is what we’re going to do to improve the education systems and incentive systems globally, in order to get people prepared for this new world, so they can maximize their income.”
Lapwosky goes on to write of how Schmidt thinks that technology is much more primitive than people think. I agree with him on that. I do not think we are quite ‘there’ yet as far as the real rapid fire changes that society is going to have to adapt to. I do disagree with him, too. I think humanity is not ready for robots to replace their jobs. Government is not ready, either.. businesses may not be either!
Robots are doing everything from picking apples in farms to making cars to serving food at restaurants. All things have a mechanical element. Even the idea of bureaucrats pushing paper for hours a day in theory could be replaced by a robot doing the same—and perhaps more efficiently without office gossip or smoke breaks to boot.
People used to be freaked by Google. Remember about ten years ago when Gmail was introduced? Millions of people are shocked to learn that Google would be able to scan personal email to use it as product placement and ad generation. (and much much more, we just don’t talk about that) .. Then millions of people signed up and all was forgotten.
Same will occur here. Everything is eventual. And technological advancements are as well..
But for the betterment of society? Only society’s response in years will tell us the real tale of what good or bad effect it had..
I can say this, though: We need to start preparing now for a majority of people not working, not having the ability to compete with robots, and signing up for government benefits.
Maybe the idea of the wage floor will make sense to a society in the future.
Maybe that future is coming very, very soon..
THE SONY HACK FALLOUT ATTACK
DEADLINE SPLASHES: Sony E-Mails Shocker: Amy Pascal, Scott Rudin Have Hollywood-Size Egos! Filmmakers React »
But even more important from the DEADLINE read on this SONY hack job: Why are people who had projects with SONY suddenly tweeting their horror at the SONY hack? One even saying the information dump is ‘terrorism.’
My take: They are reading the trove of emails between Pascal and Rudin.. they are seeing the racist comments about the President.. they are amazed at the free flowing hatred of Jolie.. and they are looking themselves in the mirror attempting to recall what type of sordid things they wrote while under contract or employ at SONY..
Philip Lord called the SONY hack terrorism—noteworthy that this battle cry waited for almost ten days to be made..
Rian Johnson said “This Sony hack is some vile shit.”
In the spirit of full disclosure, I also asked the question: If the Sony hack was inspired by a nation state or conducted by one, is that an act of war? That was written on November 30—when the SONY leak actually occurred and the “GOP” group claimed responsibility..
Since then major news outlets, both of the Hollywood kind and the mainstream, have latched onto the controversial emails and could care less about why they were hacked or what ramifications it has on geo political affairs.
At first I thought SONY was trying to make a positive out of a negative, turn this into a story about North Korea attacking them over a movie, and using that to advertise the movie. Since that point, this has fallen apart for SONY, with investors and big money getting wary of what they will read next.
And read lots we are. Those big media outlets are in a feeding frenzy going through the bits and bytes of email for the next salacious thing.
Meanwhile, the INTERVIEW is readying for its debut and North Korea is silently smiling at the entire event..
Strange times we live in, indeed.
NOW WE KNOW: Jolie is a brat. Hollywood is filled with racists
Thanks to the Guardians of Peace, the hacking group that may have worked on behalf of NORTH KOREA and decimated the personal information of Hollywood stars and threw Sony’s entire business operations into the public eye.
And apparently lots of folks really dislike Angelina Jolie. Including producer Scott Rudin.
According to some newly leaked emails from the information dump from the GOP, Rudin is on record saying that Jolie is a “minimally talented spoiled brat.” .. and another: “YOU BETTER SHUT ANGIE DOWN BEFORE SHE MAKES IT VERY HARD FOR DAVID TO DO JOBS.”
VARIETY has the full story..
As does the group GUARDIANS OF PEACE.
But there is even more to this whole mess, as the Washington POST expands on,
Beyond the gossip about movie stars and failed projects, Sony now faces real-world financial and business threats. Leaked health information, Social Security numbers and other personal data about employees and actors could invite lawsuits under California’s strict laws on data protection. Data on employees’ and actors’ pay could be used in labor disputes and may ripple across the industry. Just last week the hackers, calling themselves “Guardians of Peace,” sent threatening e-mails to Sony employees.
But perhaps the most damaging will be harm to Sony’s reputation. With only a small portion of the documents — some reports put it at more than 100 terabytes — now online, the drip-drip-drip of revelations could continue for months or years.
Even politics of the Washington D.C. kind is showing its face in the Sony emails--clearly the Hollywood Washington connection is alive and well. But this time, though Hollywood may have swooned over President Obama for 6 years now, the mocking took place in emails for the entire world to read. BUZZFEED has more,
In what has become the latest embarrassing email uncovered in a trove of messages leaked by hackers who attacked Sony, Pascal wrote Rudin: “What should I ask the president at this stupid Jeffrey breakfast?” She was referring to a breakfast hosted by DreamWorks Animation head and major Democratic donor Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Rudin, a top film producer responsible for films like No Country for Old Men andMoneyball, responded, “Would he like to finance some movies.” Pascal replied, “I doubt it. Should I ask him if he liked DJANGO?” Rudin responded: “12 YEARS.” Pascal quickly continued down the path of guessing Obama preferred movies by or starring African Americans. “Or the butler. Or think like a man? [sic]”
Rudin’s response: “Ride-along. I bet he likes Kevin Hart.”
The drops of information is now becoming a deluge.
The GOP hacked.
The truth is whacking people over the head at SONY.
The viral nature of the WOMAN IN BLACK 2
But I see these THE WOMAN IN BLACK 2 images being shared more than any others online in some time. Perhaps it’s because the there second clips are macabre and downright creepy—as the one featured here .. No matter how many loops over again it makes, each time I see it I still stop and get just a bit of a chill at the face on my screen..
And that is smart for THE WOMAN IN BLACK 2 . People like GIFs.. the online community enjoys quick laughs and even quicker scares.. The movie is drumming up interesting simply by users freely passing around GIFs and other images with #SheNeverLeft as the tag…
And that is how marketing is now.. A chimp with half a brain and an empty wallet can do it. But to do it effectively, you need to know your audience, your platform, and the style of people who would share images like those being given out by the makers of THE WOMAN IN BLACK 2 ..
I remember a time when images online had copyrights and those copyrights mean something.. Big studios would sent out directives to websites —like mine—demanding a cease and desist on the publication of certain movie images.. But now? Now things are quite the alternate. Now studios and Hollywood executives are fine with their movie stills being shared. They even help. They upload to platforms hoping that users ‘reblog’ and make them go viral—all free, all fast. And all effective.
Those cease and desists are long gone. Now we are encouraged to steal those images and post away—knowing the end result will add to the word of mouth advertising.
Everything I just said is common sense and has been so for years. But i still get a little impressed when I come across a TUMBLR site or media site as effective as the one for THE WOMAN IN BLACK 2 .
The movie has another thing going for it: It’s being released in January, it’s PG-13, and it comes after the Christmas season ends.. I personally think that January releases for horror are a good thing. By that point, we have had it up to our mistletoe in Christmas cheer and happiness. We want to be scared again.. and teenagers, those who will most likely make up the vast majority of the PG-13 release crowd on January 2 in the wide box office open for THE WOMAN IN BLACK 2, will eat this horror up.
The distributor is RELATIVITY.. No word yet officially on the number of theaters the film debuts in. But it’s a wide release. And an even wider TUMBLR world of image sharing..
THE TIME PICK: EBOLA FIGHTERS
Perhaps if EBOLA gets really, really bad, next year’s person could be the EBOLA patient. And then TIME could just include another mirror on the cover like they did for the 'You' as the person of the year in 2006.
This could also be a clever way to sell magazine—five covers?? I have always been aware of the theory that local newspapers utilize local sports to sell fishwrappers—every high school football player, baseball player, or track star buys up the issue when they are featured. As do their family members and friends.
In this regard, TIME will sell at least 5 magazine this year, and maybe a few dozen more will buy because they know the person on the cover.
But seriously..The reception for TIME’s choice has been positives, according to the TWITTER feeds I follow. People are roundly applauding TIME for picking brave people who fought Ebola and risked their own safety..
I personally think this is a safe choice for TIME to make—one that will have no opponents and be affectionately thought of as a positive decision for the corporate magazine..Nurses and doctors could get the choice as person of the year every year.. As could police officers and others.
I think my choice for person of the year—the one who most influenced the news and changed the course of history over the past 12 months (by definition, this is how TIME decides) would be: Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the soccer playing Ph.D. who became the leader of ISIS.
Another civil emergency that was not
The only problem--maybe thankfully--is that there was no emergency at all. The Kentucky Emergency Management office said that human errors caused the machine to sent out the false alert message. Nothing at all to worry about. No zombies. No attacks.. No nuclear Armageddon.
Just a human making mistakes..
Local ABC 36 affiliate in Kentucky reports that the emergency message was sent during a period of computer testing.
The strangeness of the situation is only amplified by another incident that simultaneously occurred as the warning message was sent: The users of cell phones who got the odd alert also report hearing 'low flying' military helicopters during the alert period.. Alex Jones' INFOWARS has a summation of these incidents, including the linking of a Facebook post where people were actively laughing, mocking, and commenting about the situation.. One user comment to the post said,
I was just walking outside the London Wal-Mart and thought I saw 9 or 10 zombies, each using a shopping cart to hold themselves up! I then went to Dairy Queen and saw 2 more that seemed to be working there. I was afraid for my life, they literally looked like characters from The Walking Dead! That's it, it must be a zombie attack.
Zombies abound..
Regardless of why or how this alert generated a scary few minutes for people getting it, it's certainly not the first time in 2014 that it happened. In October, during the TODAY SHOW segment on how to 'take charge of your laundry,' a weird emergency alert interrupted the program on television sets across America.. Thankfully no one really watches the TODAY SHOW, besides a few people forced to in car repair shops and doctors offices across America..
Fortean TIMES website goes offline today
The HORROR REPORT has been reading this publication and a fan since we entered onto the Internet scene over 12 years ago.
But now that website is in trouble..
According to information being posted on the FORTEAN TIMES Facebook page, owner of the site Dennis Communications (*http://www.dennis.co.uk/) is closing down the website!
Fortean Times typically updated daily with quick news bits and other weird headlines. But that has not occurred since November 20, causing speculation as to why the news outage on the site was happening.
Just days ago, the Facebook page posted a message alluding to the seemingly strange silence:
Apologies for the lack of news updates in the last couple of weeks. We are currently unable to access the FT website as Dennis Publishing are overhauling it. Hopefully back soon....
But even odder was the thought that someone who was able to operate and update a website wasn't able to obtain access to it..
Them came this message posted only 17 minutes ago at the time the HORROR REPORT posts this:
Yes, the daily news dearth continues.
We have not been able to access the FT website for some time to update it.
Latest is that, sadly, the old www.forteantimes.com website is being closed down by Dennis Publishing today - so visit it while you still can.
Obviously, this is not exactly good news, but we are told that at least the message boards/forums are being kept and migrated over to a new FT subscriptions site, so at least all board users should still be able to carry on as normal.
Meanwhile, we have been frantically trying to archive much of the content of the FT site so it is not lost and can hopefully be reposted somewhere at some point in the future.
We still won't have any way of accessing the new FT subs site until next year, it seems, so you'll just have to bear with us for now.
And don't forget that our special Christmas issue is out tomorrow, which should help keep you all going!
The British monthly magazine is devoted to providing information and news articles on the bizarre and strange, or the fortean. The magazine has also had a number of publishers during its time of life through present. The most recent, Dennis Publishing Ltd, took over in 2005. The roots of the magazine--and name--can be traced to Charles Fort. People who know anything much about paranormal know who Charles Fort is: He was the American writer about anomalous phenomena ..
Dennis Publishing boasts an arsenal of the print world on its website. It's brands are voluminous. But why shudder a website that has been a friend of users for years?
These secrets lay somewhere on Cleveland Street in London today.
Meanwhile, a screen cap of the final day of WWW.FORTEANTIMES.COM is here:
The HORROR REPORT has contacted both Fortean Times and Dennis Publishing and will follow up in the case of any more information becoming available..
The new GHOST FACE
It glows. it's blue. It may be used for an upcoming MTV series..
Regardless of its use, the mask is certainly much different than the 1990s incarnation of the famous SCREAM painting..
Feedback has been critical.. divided. Some like. Some hate.
The white face of the original SCREAM series is iconic.. even today, kids on Halloween scout towns with the attire--most likely not even knowing how scary a scene with Drew Barrymore answering a giant portable phone was in the late 20th century..
This mask though?
I personally think it looks like a Dollar Store version of the original mask.. a bad replica.
Maybe just a bad photo..
TIME WILL TELL.
Tomorrow: The new GHOST FACE debuts at FUN WORLD.
According to Wes Craven..
The torture report
Things to know about today's report on torture..
CIA Torture Report: Bush Was Kept in the Dark »
President George W. Bush was never briefed by the Central Intelligence Agency on the details of harsh interrogation techniques and secret detention of terror suspects for the first four years of the controversial program, and when he did find out the details, he was “uncomfortable” with some of the practices, according to the long-awaited report by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
US prepares for security risks from torture report »
A scathing report released by the Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday found that the Central Intelligence Agency routinely misled the White House and Congress about the information it obtained from the detention and interrogation of terrorism suspects, and that its methods were more brutal than the C.I.A. acknowledged either to Bush administration officials or to the public. »
One new revelation I hadn’t heard of until now that surfaced in this report: Rectal feeding.
The NEW YORK TIMES reports,
Detainees were deprived of sleep for as long as a week, and were sometimes told that they would be killed while in American custody. With the approval of the C.I.A.’s medical staff, some C.I.A. prisoners were subjected to medically unnecessary “rectal feeding” or “rectal hydration” — a technique that the C.I.A.’s chief of interrogations described as a way to exert “total control over the detainee.” C.I.A. medical staff members described the waterboarding of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the chief planner of the Sept. 11 attacks, as a “series of near drownings.”
Total control indeed..
The breaking down of human beings by those who did it best..
Facts Buried In The Senate’s 600 Page Torture Report »
Some more of the noteworthy things brought forth in the torture report..
This may be of particular interest,
“[A]n “intellectually challenged” man whose CIA detention was used solely as leverage to get a family member to provide information, two individuals who were intelligence sources for foreign liaison services and were former CIA sources, and two individuals whom the CIA assessed to be connected to al-Qa’ida based solely on information fabricated by a CIA detainee subjected to the CIA’s enhanced interrogation techniques.” [Page 12]
And this
“CIA officers also threatened at least three detainees with harm to their families—to include threats to harm the children of a detainee, threats to sexually abuse the mother of a detainee, and a threat to “cut [a detainee’s] mother’s throat.” [Page 4]
And one more
“Conditions at CIA detention sites were poor, and were especially bleak early in the program. CIA detainees at the COBALT detention facility were kept in complete darkness and constantly shackled in isolated cells with loud noise or music and only a bucket to use for human waste. Lack of heat at the facility likely contributed to the death of a detainee. The chief of interrogations described COBALT as a “dungeon.” Another seniorCIA officer stated that COBALT was itself an enhanced interrogation technique.” [Page 4]
Pennywise's new dance
In an interview with VULTURE, producer Dan Lin dropped this news: Cary Fukunaga will be will direct the film..
Lin told VULTURE,
Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we’ve been with this for about three or four years, so we’re super excited that he stayed with it. You guys are gonna be really excited
People indeed are excited but also apprehensive.
Let me be honest.. I have fond memories of being 12 years old and watching IT on television.. I even recall my sister making me get all of my homework done in her apartment one night before IT came on, because were would watch it. IT may have been the movie that made me start liking horror.. And for a kid to see a movie about kids being the heroes--kids who admittedly all had major mental and health issues and had parents who didn't give a flying piece of excrement about them--was inspiring. IT was 'it'... So to hear a remake is coming, it just gives me that overall feeling of 'groan' that I get when I hear about other remakes.
But a study of Fukunaga's background could give hope. He's a young director, born in 1977--he was young when IT was on television to, I presume he was one of those excited people like me who watched the miniseries before reading the novel. He should be honored and humbled at the same time to not only take up the mission of directing this movie, but also moving forward knowing that Stephen King 'gave the blessing' on the project to begin with..
When the STAR WARS trailer was released a few days back, I was a bit unimpressed overall.. the main thing I keep trying to grasp: What villain can replace Darth Vader for this new century?
I ask the same thing about IT: What clown can replace Tim Curry's memorable role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown? Perhaps the best solution: Just ask Tim Curry to reprise the role all over again..? If not him, perhaps then the other rumored name: Michael Shannon?
Beep beep Richie.

The United States is readying its bases, facilities, and other locations of interest for potential terrorism.. A Senate report on torture that occurred at black sites throughout the world is about to hit.. The report, officials say, will be causing 'unrest' around the globe.. Strange new twists in SONY HACK ATTACK
This is the latest twist in an already bizarre story .. Only days ago, this same group was blamed for the massive cyber attack that crippled computers at the company. Even more, a large data dump was made including Hollywood stars and starlets' social security numbers, contracts, and lots of other private data going back to at least the year 2000. At the time, SONY made mention of the chance that the GOP hacked into their system simply because of the film THE INTERVIEW, and that the group hack state backing from North Korea to do it.. various media reports in subsequent days inferred that the FBI was investigating the claims.
Since that time, a groundswell of confusion has enveloped the entire story, with some wondering aloud of the North Korea angle was simply SONY trying to embellish on a possibility and help pop culture embrace THE INTERVIEW even more. Others--including me--wondered if the SONY hack attack would have been an act of war should it be revealed that North Korea was actually behind it.
Now this latest GOP assault is another piece of a large puzzle of confusion in relation to this story.
Ted Johnson, a senior editor for VARIETY, reported this in the latest runs concerning the situation,
The message from GOP said that they “have given our clear demand to the management team of Sony, however they have refused.”
“You, SONY, & FBI, cannot find us.”
The note also included a link connected to the names of Amy Pascal and Stephen Mosko.
A spokeswoman for Sony said they had no comment. An individual close to the studio said that they have received no demands.
The message also claims to “know nothing about the threatening email received by Sony staffers,” an apparent reference to a message received on Friday that authorities also are investigating.
This is the full message as posted on GITHUB by the GOP group:
We have already given our clear demand to the management team of SONY, however, they have refused to accept. It seems that you think everything will be well, if you find out the attacker, while no reacting to our demand. We are sending you our warning again.Do carry out our demand if you want to escape us.And, Stop immediately showing the movie of terrorism which can break the regional peace and cause the War!You, SONY & FBI, cannot find us.We are perfect as much. The destiny of SONY is totally up to the wise reaction & measure of SONY.
The interesting statement within this: The 'demands' that SONY refused to accept. The demands referenced are now being made public as well.. According to other sources with copies of information, the hackers from the group sent SONY as strange and jumbled email three days prior to the hacking asking for money. MASHABLE actually found the demand email in the hacked documents which were dumped online by the GOP.
With all of this feeding frenzy of intrigue, a few other points are noteworthy, including this: SONY's PLAYSTATION went offline yesterday. It was hacked.. Customers who were frantically attempting to play a game on their console were told "Page Not Found! it's not you. It's the Internet's Fault." The GOP didn't do this one, however. A group called Lizard Squad is claiming responsibility for the Playstation downing--the same hacker group hit XBox last week.
In the CNN report, Dave Aitel from IMMUNITY Inc, said it was 'very clear' that a nation state has done the hack, and mentioned how a customer of such a company needs to take into account that you could be a pawn in the global war of a nation vs a private company..
The situation at SONY isn't good.. they are in full blown damage control and, despite their role as a victim in this entire affair, could see ramifications far beyond the box office. Namely with investors are big money men who could doubt SONY as a safe and reliable entity to trust. And even more, a careful examination of the hacked information clearly puts SONY'S entire business model and corporate structure out in the open like the King having no pants.. Everything they have done for years is out there.. their actors' information is out there.. the trust factor is huge. In Hollywood, the trust in SONY seems to have be spiraling down..
As this story develops over time, a full unveiling of the truth will occur. It could be slow.
After all, this is war: SONY is trying to bash North Korea and blame them for a massive cyber attack--and don't think for a second executives don't think that will help the credibility of THE INTERVIEW when it is released this month.. but on the flip side, some very important questions are floating to the surface of the cesspool of the data dump, including this: Did SONY'S network security have flaws leading to this attack? Did SONY save all of its information only in one place, allowing for this cyber hit to be easier? What about firewalls? Is anyone looking into current or former employees within the company to see if this attack was easier? Disgruntled techies? And finally.. Is anyone coming to grips with the possibility that a rogue nation state just declared war over a movie?
That last question would be the most epic of all to answer..

There is a part of me that does not smell conspiracy here.. In a sense, you can take any industry and say a certain number of doctors a year die in strange ways, or nurses, or dentsits, or even state government workers. And 36 as a number among bankers really isn't that much.
But the devil in the details prompts my suspicious mind to begin churning.. Of those bankers listed who committed suicide, it came as a shock. It was out of their character.. And even stranger, many left no traces behind as to why they decided to take their own lives. Of those who did not commit suicide, perhaps something we will never know the full extent of, the circumstances are strange, as evidenced from Tack most recently.
Remember.. in the 'natural cases' category for banker deaths, we are including dramatic suicides by jumping off of buildings, bodies being found floating in water, nail guns through the head, broken body parts, plucked out eyeballs, torch burns, finger nail removals.. and the list goes on..
Peace #2
Today, I post this new 'peace number 2' photo. It was of Saint Ignatius Church in Centralia, PA. The building stood for over 100 years. It was built on solid rock with a cemetery behind it. However, in the late 1990s the church was destroyed by crews who also destroyed much of the rest of the town as people moved away.
My father was the caretaker of this church and grounds for over two decades. The anniversary of him going to the hospital last year has me deeply thinking about the past. His past, my past.. my family's past. And our collective futures.
The amazing story of this church's downfall: When crews began their work on destroying this historic and unifying building, they had trouble. The night previous, a March ice storm glazed over the entire church--the most notable portion that was untouchable was the steeple and cross. They had to literally chop away at the ice for hours before they were able to get the steeple down. And when it fell, it stay in tact.
Another piece of bizarre, and perhaps paranormal. The team who crushed this church also had a decades' long affair doing the same to others. Schools, churches.. In the case of Centralia, an entire neighborhood. They were good at their work. About a year ago, while destroying another church someone paid them to, the building crushed the owner of the company and he perished. A unique and somewhat ironic way to die after living a life building a company that advertised itself in the destruction of neighborhoods and buildings with historic allure.
When I was a child, I recall being at this church with my father.. I often went with him while he checked the heating and the doors .. I think I did it because as a child it was my way of staying up past 10pm on a school night. I will always recall my first travails with the paranormal, as they happened in that very building. I had to be no older than 8.. I was marching around the church late at night while my dad was downstairs in the furnace room.. I heard the whisper of the priest in the confessional. Before you made a joke of some sordid nature, let me advise: The priest was no where to be found. I didn't realize that as a tender little kid. Instead I told my dad that the priest is still hearing confessions and he quickly informed me it was time to get into his truck to go home.. Later in life I learned I was not the only one who heard whispers in St. Ignatius. Some even account for stories of seeing entire choirs staring down at them--a frightful thought since that would constitute as more than a mere glance, don't you think?
The image posted here of St. Ignatius appears to be taken during a snowstorm in the early 1980s. I was about two blocks away playing in the background, no doubt.. Chances are my dad was somewhere around or in the building shoveling ..
And this is yet another image of peace.
From a time long ago now.
Peace ..
He didn't live much longer after this photo was taken..
I stumbled across this picture. A family member of mine posted it in a Centralia Facebook group.. Initially when I saw it I was haunted by the image.. But then at peace and filled with humble nostalgia for a simpler time..
There is something purely peaceful about a man in his comfort zone.. He's home, with a grapevine growing out of view of the camera and a yard for his dogs to roam free.. He was home.
Are any of us home anymore? If we are we are on phones or eating up every bit of Wifi we can.. We are quickly running through life on a fast paced mission to no where..
But my uncle, in this photo, was home.
At peace..
I long to go back to the days when I felt at home, too.
Forget chemtrails. Welcome Gauzetrails
CBS 5 in Arizona is reporting a must see story:
CBS 5 - KPHO
This story surfaced around the middle of November.. The story captured the eyes of conspiracy sites and others immediately.. To KPHO's credit, they did a follow up on the article and they reported this only days ago: The mysterious fibers falling from military jets were just 'gauze' ... The woman who sought answers got her questions resolved by the forensics team that concluded the weird spider web substance was just a mixture of mixture of wheat, gluten, flour and bacitracin, an antibiotic..
Of course, any logical personal may wonder why military jets are dropping this from the sky..
Besides 'why' it is being dropped from military planes, does this not perhaps fill in some gaps for those who doubt chemtrails are even real? Could this not add to the arsenal of those who argue that they see airliners filling the skies with clouds all of the time?
The subject of Chemtrails is a surprisingly divisive issue among the masses. But what is surprising to me is that even when some hear that the sky has been falling, they still deny the possibility of it to begin with..
Forget the Face on Mars!
Now we have Obama's head on the planet!!
A multitude of websites are showcasing a very interesting image taken by NASA's Spirit Rover.. the picture seems to show a rock formation that closely--almost creepy in nature--resembles the head of President Obama!
Of course experts assert that this rock formation is just a rock. And that our brains are tricking us into categorizing it as something it clearly is not..
But the image..
Here's your WHERE'S BARRY game. Find the President's head on Mars:
The image was apparently taken in 2005--a year after Obama's historic DNC convention speech.. So either Martians liked him earlier than humans..or that trick of light is just taking place.
Obama's head is not the first thing to be spotted on Mars.
There has been a rat, a human, a building, and countless other structures and entities.
Regardless of truth, this video is most likely one you will be seeing over the coming days and weeks: Obama is the descendant of a Martian ruler. And to conspiracy theorists, that explains the ancient statue of Obama on the red planet.
I guess that explains it.

The foodmonger
I first heard her on Alex Jones some time ago. She was espousing the dangers of SUBWAY bread and how an agent similar to plastic was within it.. I sort of dismissed her a bit.. Then a few days later SUBWAY announced that external pressures was going to cause them to phase out this really creepy element. I thanked my lucky stars that I never ate Subway.. but then became a "Facebok fan' of the FOOD BABE..
Her name is Vani Hari. And she is getting some big attention now that her little website and Facebook fan backing has changed the way we look at food and its ingredients.
NPR just ran a story on her adding to the mix. This is what they said,
But as her profile grows, so too do the criticisms of her approach. Detractors, many of them academics, say she stokes unfounded fears about what's in our food to garner publicity. Steve Novella, a Yale neuroscientist and prominent pseudoscience warrior, among others, has dubbed Hari the "Jenny McCarthy of food" after the celebrity known for championing thoroughly debunked claims that vaccines cause autism.
First off.. I am not comfortable with the last theory in that quote. But it's fine. Whatever..
NPR also said,
Critics note that Hari lacks credentials in nutrition or food science; she's a former consultant who studied computer science. Hari declined to be interviewed for this story; through her publicist, she told NPR she isn't speaking to media until her new book is released in February. But when the Charlotte Observer asked her about such criticisms, Hari answered, "I've never claimed to be a nutritionist. I'm an investigator."
But that lack of training often leads her to misinterpret peer-reviewed research and technical details about food chemistry, nutrition and health, says Kevin Folta, a professor of horticultural sciences at the University of Florida and vocal online critic of Hari. "She really conflates the science," he tells The Salt.
"If anything, she's created more confusion about food, more confusion about the role of chemicals and additives," Folta says.
More recently, as we've reported, Hari's attacks on the lack of pumpkin in Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice lattes prompted the Institute of Food Technologists to release a video explaining the chemicals that replicate that squash flavor in a cup of Joe.
The war is on..It sounds to me like the Food Babe fight is about to go mainstream.. She is mainstream enough now for foodies to pounce on her. But even more important, big agra and all the notorious characters associated with GMO will sit back and watch her as she is forced to defend herself from the detractors that NPR profiled in its piece.
Hari is attacking back.. On her website, she posted some of the more hateful commentary that she has received since the article in NPR was shared around the world. Some of the comments mock her natural beauty by calling her a 'whore' and worse.. Others actually call for her rape or death. I would imagine that those who dislike her message are very uncomfortable now being coupled with misogamy and hate. But it's the Internet, that happens often.
Hari is also saying this on her page:
Part of the reason I am responding now is because their messages have started to infiltrate the mainstream media. Seemingly reputable news organizations like NPR (in a blog post titled “Is The Food Babe A Fearmonger? Scientists Are Speaking Out”) even linked to the hate groups – quoting one of their spokespeople and repeated their ridiculous and biased messages as if they have any merit.
Obviously, some powerful entities in the food industry have a financial incentive to try to discredit me in the work we have all done together. And that’s why I created this page — to comprehensively address the criticisms levied at our movement to secure a healthy, unpolluted food supply — and the work I have been personally doing in support of this effort.
I think truth is often in the middle. Hari may make mistakes. Perhaps sometimes overdue what should not be.. chemicals often are just chemicals and not particularly harmful. However, I also believe that the FOOD BABE is onto something.. If she was not, why didn't SUBWAY fight her? Because the public is sick of crap, garbage, and useless ingredients in food. We want food again. The FOOD BABE Is striking while the iron is hot..
I take her postings with a grain of salt. However her inspiration to people to eat better, eat clean, and drink clean, is positive.. She is clever in her marketing.. Also, she knows the way to make cash, icing on the cake of her food war..
Even if we assume she is flawed, does that make the point of her message any less important? If you cannot pronounce the chemical added to your food, it may make you at least think twice before eating it. That is basically her main issue. Big companies want to discredit her because they think if they can do it, it would make her message muddy and allow those chemicals to free flow without scrutiny.
Instead of profiling the FOOD BABE and offering negative articles about her, perhaps mainstream stays like NPR and the ilk should focus on some of the topics she has covered. While they are at it, visit a farm in India where a farmer just committed suicide because of a GMO crop failure.
But that's too hard. It's much easier labeling the food war as a personality war.. And it's a lot more simple to besmirch one person's character instead of honing in on just what ingredients go into Frankenfood and why..
President Obama goes to the hospital--and the media chooses not to have a feeding frenzy
But should this not be a bigger deal?
I recall when George W. Bush choked on a pretzel during a football game, the media went wall to wall. Partially because it seemed like such a bonehead way to have an accident, and also because he was the leader of the free world.. grimacing in pain and losing air on the floor while choking on a pretzel..
In this instance, during a rainstorm in Washington D.C., a motorcade lined the street to take President Obama to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.. he had to undergo a series of tests, including a CT Scan .. finally, we are told that that tests showed the President was being hit with acid reflux.. Again, they tell us.
According to reports, the President was at the hospital for over an hour.
There are comments on a multitude of stories mocking the President's mile long motorcade as overkill, others are claiming that the President overreacted and that his acid reflux was not a serious thing.. I say it's fine for an over abundant testing regiment any time the President even has as much as a headache..
I also doubt the mainstream story on this. I really do.
I don't know what gut instinct, or acid reflux belch, tells me this, but I think there is more to this story.. It seems like overkill on one hand.. but ont he other should the media not be asking more about the tests, wondering if the President was awake for all of them, getting information on whether Joe Biden was on standby just in case anything occurred at the hospital? Yes.
But instead we are just given a little snippet of news with a talking point medical paragraph about what acid reflux is and how you get it.
Trust me, media; This is America. We smoke, drink, and eat too much. I think we all know what acid reflux is..
But what we do want to know more about why now for the President's medical treatment.. Sore throat for weeks.. but the motorcade decided to pick a drenched Saturday morning--the same one when a botched rescue mission left an Al Qaeda hostage dead-- to take the President to the hospital.
Another time slip on an icy Sunday morning sidewalk
The second thing that is unbelievable, and one I have written about a number of times, is the amazing way that time passes, the fast paced way that clocks churn and calender pages turn..
This year is no different. 2014 will mark what I feel to be one of the fastest years in memory. But that may also be he product of something else occurring in my own life: Aging. I am 34 now, an age and time I never thought I'd see. Not because I didn't think I'd be alive, but instead because there is this certain sense in your 20s that your 20s are lasting for a long enough time that they will never end.
End they do. The 30s will end, too.. and the 40s..
My own father just turned 70 years of age today. That is monumental for a number of reasons.. First, anyone turning 70 means you've hit the milestone. You're close to the government statistic but you've also be a lot of odds getting to that age. For my father, he beat a many more odds, which is the second reason his birthday is quite important. Last year at this time he was nearly dead and getting worse, being taken to the hospital for almost 8 straight days of intensive care. This year he is happily watching black and white movies on his chair in the comfort of his home, something that you'd never think would have happened again if you saw him on his birthday last year when Sunday morning was coming down..
I have no good segway for what I am about to say, nothing which couples it perfectly with any statement previously made on the passage of time or the fruitlessness of the 20s.. So here it goes. Beginning December 2013, I believe that me and my entire family experienced a large scale time slip in which we were seeing things that did not exist in this time, but at times were propelled back into it. I don't doubt that it will sound insane in some way to hear that.. you may discount it altogether. That's fine. But as I have said many times over, the paranormal is never real until you experience something paranormal..
My sister and I were discussing events of 2013 just last night. Either we have been wrong for an entire year, or another slip occurred. We all recalled December 8 as the time my dad's issue began. So did my own father--he recalled it being the 8th as well. We were either wrong for an entire year or this is just another symptom of the global time slip that I think we have all been in since Nelson Mandela, the real time traveler among us, died in December 2013.
Time never makes mistakes, perhaps. However, do times slip? Do timelines intertwine? Can we enter one and leave another without realizing it even took place?
I will not labor over further talk of time slips.. you can search the HORROR REPORT archive on that topic should you wish to go back to any previous articles written about (in particular here is my 2013 article referencing my father's fate and time slips)
But that's life on the Sunday morning sidewalk.. time is relative to the time slip you're in. Which one are you in today?
Me First and the Gimmies are heralding in this week's Sunday morning sidewalk tune.. it's quick and in your face compared to the other more mellow versions. I choose this because time itself is quick and in your face.. Especially when it slips.
Welcome to your Sunday, all..
