A fine tribute for a four pawed friend
This is Kaiser the police dog from Plymouth Massachusetts. The photo was posted by his handler of the Doug's last walk.. Kaiser was put to sleep after a sudden downturn in health from kidney problems. As seen, the police force didn't let Kaiser go without a fitting tribute.. Anyone who owns or did own a dog (especially if you had to make the same choice) or anyone with a heart, will tear up at this fitting tribute..

I smell a rat: That is surely a strange looking rock walking on Mars..
So did you hear the one about the rat on Mars?
No seriously.. did you?
This photo seen here been making the rounds across the Internets. It's on fire..
It all started with a sleauths examining photos from the Mars Curiosity Rover. They found what appeared to be a giant rat slithering between two large rocks on the 'red planet'.. MORE HERE
At first glance, you can't really see the rat creature. But closer studying of the image reveals the animal. Or it simply reveals a rock shaped like a rat?
The story has been around for a week or two now.. But it's getting a lot more traction. It really, REALLY, does look like an animals walking the surface of Mars.
Some have Tweeted and blogged that it's less a rat and more a squirrel. But the term 'Mars Rat' has a little more fun attached to it than a squirrel. Maybe Mars Critter? The rat just caught on and Internet people ran with it.
But before you laugh it off, consider what Scott Waring from UFO SIGHTINGS DAILY wrote about the Mars rat way back in December before any of us were even paying attention to this story: He asked what if NASA sent the rat or whatever creature to the Martian landscape in order to see how long it would live. He went on to write as to why they would not tell us:
Because the squirrel would be expected to die eventually and that would get PETA [People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals] to fight against them in a court of law
While some may scoff at that possibility, it's worth noting examples in history where nations sent chimps into the great vast wildness of the universe to see what would happen to them? But of course the PETA thing may be a stretch. OR .. maybe not.
Chances are this is not a rat, or a squirrel, but just a plain old rock. I say that not because I am hopeful it is a rock but because it just seems too good to be true that NASA would release an image of their secret experiment or proof of life walking the red planet. However, maybe, just maybe, when I'm a gray old man advanced in age, some future NASA head will do a Friday night document dump of previously classified materials, and we will find out that, yes, indeed, a Martian rat walked in 2013.

Loose landfills: Dan Aykroyd footage mistaken for snuff film..
True story: A man found an old video in a Calgary landfill with footage from a Dan Aykroyd movie in which he's standing over a dead body. The man gave the video to police because he thought he uncovered a real life snuff flick.
The scene that the man gave to police came from a little known flick LOOSE CANNONS. Cops spent hours analyzing the footage. The finally cracked the case and happily closed it out..
Dan Aykroyd seemed to accept the news story.. he humorously quipped to TMZ that the film should have stayed in a landfill where it belonged..
I suppose seeing something like this would have raised suspicion in any of us:
And really, who ever saw LOOSE CANNONS anyway?
But being this recent event is the best publicity the 1990 film ever got, perhaps it's worth strolling back down amnesia lane to find out what the movie was even about anyway..
It was a comedy.. about a Nazi sex tape featuring Adolf Hitler. it is also one of the only films to have a 0% rating on ROTTEN TOMATOES. It was just that bad. Hence the fact it's in a landfill..
I like Dan Aykroyd, please don't get me wrong.. I think his movie career has been great, and he's a reputable believer and investigator of the strange and fortean. There's nothing to dislike about him.
Except this movie.
I recall vividly watching a few minutes of it.. and then happily turning it off.
Besides UFOs and ghosts, what Dan Aykroyd may really fear is that the 1990 dud may be rearing its ugly head again. I am sure there's a surge on Google of people attempting to find out what the movie is about. Maybe someone out there will even buy a copy.. And after they watch it, they will take it to the police to report just how criminal it was to make such a lousy movie.

In a world where anything can happen, we don't want a nuclear explosion to happen
The planet Earth has enough problems with worrying about a smoldering landfill threatening nuclear waste. But that is exactly the worry of people in Missouri now that trash is burning just 1,200 feet from a landfill of nuclear material dating back to the Manhattan Project of the 1940s..
This is a true story.
The ASSOCIATED PRESS did a big article on it just days ago.. though few people you know are talking about it, and even less know about it..
According to known facts: A layer of trash has been burning below the surface of the Bridgeton Landfill since 2010. According to the AP, the burning was fueled by an underground reaction of decomposing waste. Scientists and experts are worried that the burning material could reach the West Lake Landfill--the home of radioactive material..
One thought would be, if the fire got close, to make a barrier of soil between both landfills..
But maybe there's nothing to see here..?
Officials have been quick to point out their argument: Radioactive waste poses 'no public danger' .. This from the EPA.
The EPA's main goal appears not to be factually considering what is happening near St. Louis, but instead substantially trying to calm down residents.. trying to stop the fanning of flames.. trying to dispel rumors of doom..
The ROLLING STONE did an article in early May about the topic called ST LOUIS IS STILL BURNING. The article details serious health and safety concerns. They point out that the government isn't overly concerned about it. We can tell that from the EPA statement of 'nothing to see here' mentality..
There's a fire burning in Bridgeton, Missouri. It's invisible to area residents, buried deep beneath the ground in a North St. Louis County landfill. But the smoldering waste is an unavoidable presence in town, giving off a putrid odor that clouds the air miles away – an overwhelming stench described by one area woman as "rotten eggs mixed with skunk and fertilizer." Residents report smelling it at K-12 school buses, a TGI Fridays and even the operating room of a local hospital. "It smells like dead bodies," observes another local. On a Saturday morning in March, one mile south of the landfill, several Bridgeton residents have gathered at a small home in a blue-collar subdivision called Spanish Village. Concerned citizens Karen Nickel and Dawn Chapman are here to answer questions posed by four of their neighbors. "How will I ever sell my house?" "Am I going to end up with cancer 20 years down the road?" "Is there even a solution?"
Even without the fire closing in on the nuclear dump, the other main problem as described by the ROLLING STONE article is that the smoking cloudy mixture rising into the air plain stinks. It's annoying, it's even beyond annoying, at some points with high amounts of benzene and hydrogen sulfide airing out...
Why isn't anyone paying attention?
Why is the EPA seemingly just fine with all of this?
And why, with a fire burning exceptionally close to a former nuclear dump, isn't this story getting front page status..?
We may never know answers to those whys. But we at least know the who, what, when, and where...
And for the record: The West Lake Landfill has 8,700 tons of nuclear waste.
Food for thought.
And maybe a little snippet of why the 'why' isn't being talked about..

Life isn't DONNIE DARKO but sure looks like it now and then
Life imitates art.. In my opinion, you can't read this story about a small Cessna plane crashing into a Virginia living room without having memories of DONNIE DARKO conjured up..
It's amazing news that no one was critically injured, just minor.. But the whole story tells me that life imitates art more than the other way around..
No bunny suit reportedly was flu at the site, however, which is a sigh of relief for the owners of the apartment.. Time slips my set to occur with this one.

Cars and trucks tossed like toys during tornadoes..
FRIDAY NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT: TORNADOES RAVAGE OKLAHOMA CITY, MISSOURI, AND KANSAS
A tragic situation in the Midwest.. so many areas hit by tornadoes. They are deadly, as well.. victims include a mother and her child.. This news is so difficult to hear, so horrendous to read, and so sad to try to comprehend.. If you pray to God, tonight's a good night to do it.. If not, consider it.. and if you're not convinced there's a God you can still send those positive feelings towards those in need..

Hannibal gets a second season
In a time when networks are shedding their losses, on show is shining.
NBC has given the green light to a second season of HANNIBAL.. Deadline reports that the network put off a decision but finally made one..
The show has been critically acclaimed, and has some solid ratings though viewers dropped off a bit after the first few shows..
It also shows evidence that movie theaters may not be where horror airs the most.. Television seems to be the new form of entertainment where fans get the best of horror and sci fi..

Another paranormal gem on radio from Clyde Lewis
Clyde Lewis me have outdone himself last night, showing exactly what paranormal radio should be..
On the program he interviewed a guest only known as Edward, someone who came to him with a strange tale of his mom in the hospital..
According to the story, Edward's mother suffered a heart attack and during treatment and became very violent with nurses--spoke in different voices, even growling and clawing at them..
Edward concluded that his mother was haunted by the spirit of someone named Olivia, and possibly four other devilish entities.. There was even a brief recording played last night in which a young girl says mommy over and over again..
Whether you believe the story or not doesn't really matter. After all, radio is entertainment and in the world of paranormal radio it seems that Clyde Lewis is the only one that does it best..
But if you stop for a moment, and suspend your scientific and rational reality, think about the story itself.. If you actually listen to the program from last night you will find that Edward sounds very believable and does not seem at all to be trying to make money off of this situation.. Even further, his mom remains in the hospital and has continued to suffer setbacks, all the while Edward says that his home has seen increasing paranormal activity..
The show is a must listen.
....unless you do believe this, and if so you may want to stay very far away from the topic...

It ain't Hollywood: The May 31 1998 QE2 asteroid flyby
Well this is it.. for months we have been warned that a large asteroid the size of a cruise ship was going to zip by the planet Earth on May 31. And now, today, May 31, it is doing just that. As expected. Luckily for us it's not in a direct path to hit the planet. Instead, the 2 mile wide space rock will travel within 3.6 million miles. That doesn't seem close, but in terms of the universe, it's only a pinhead away..
NASA chief Charles Bolden will host a live telescope view of the asteroid at 1:30 PM Edt.. Space.Com is set to broadcast the live event..
For the record, the asteroid we are going to be watching is 1998 QE2. It was obviously discovered in 1998.. where were you then? Me? I was a junior in high school probably staying up too late to watch David Letterman and listen to Art Bell, never imaging that the year 2013 would ever have even been here..
But this asteroid flyby brings up some delicate and important questions. What about the next 'big one'? The one that is set to pound earth?
We assume we know of all of the threats out there.. but there are tons of space debris and rocks ready and poised to slam something somewhere. Next year, for example, another asteroid may very well hit Mars. Later in November of this year, we may see a comet as bright as the sun in our earthly skies..
Back in March of this year, NASA gave advice if an asteroid was on a collision course with the planet earth: PRAY. That is what they said.. Pray. And really, who could blame them? What else at that point where there be to do? ARMAGEDDON style responses are just Hollywood.. if the real event actually happened, world governments would hardly be apt to come together let alone respond with anything that would destroy the space rock..
PRAY.
Yes indeed.. pray.

Is it possible that we will bring the mammoth back to life.. and if so, SHOULD WE?
I will answer the second question first: NO! Manipulation of DNA, the creation of life..? that should be left to mother nature. Obviously people don't remember JURASSIC PARK. 1993 may have been a long time ago, but the lessons of a simple Spielberg movie should never be forgotten.
Now to the first question.
The speculation over the return of the mammoth has begun because a well-preserved mammoth has been discovered in Siberia. Even more: The discovery is coupled with liquid blood.. That's right: The ice age giant has been found in Sibera with blood and muscle tissue trapped in ice. According to reports, such as this one on RT.COM, researchers broke the cavities with a pick and liquid blood came flowing out. This is a pretty big deal.. Like, beyond a big deal..
Reports conclude that the blood was placed in test tubes.. And .. well, the rest may be history once over-achieving scientists get their hands on the new found old life.
But now comes the tougher question: Now that we discovered liquid blood and have wonderful scientific abilities to clone and create, should we? I answered that with my own opinion above. But you're free to opine.. I'd love to hear your thoughts ..
Just because we may possibly be able to bring the big mammoth back, does that automatically mean we should? Send me your comments on email, Tweet me, or leave a comment on Facebook..

Sleeping during trailers? Should Hollywood trailers only be two minutes long?
It's commonplace that, even if a movie starts at 9pm, you're not late until your get there by 9:30. That's because trailers take up so much time of the first portion of your theater time.. And that fact has now caused theater owners to try to seek new rules to shorten movie trailers..
The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER has the story about how the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF THEATER OWNERS (NATO, not to be confused with the other organization) wants to give movie exhibitors more control over how Hollywood movies are marketed inside theaters. Theater owners feel that trailers are already too long and don't want NATO telling Hollywood they have more power to make them even longer..
Currently trailers are 2.5 minutes long.. But the MAN OF STEEL ran three minutes..
I personally don't think a trailer lasting more than 2 minutes is effective.. Most of the time, in modern cinemas, all trailers sort of flow with the same format. The horror movie has scary music and the big jump scene.. the action movies have the explosions and the joke at the end.. the dramas have the sad music and the romance kiss.. the comedies have the silly music along with the funniest parts of the movies placed in the trailer. We know the game, Hollywood. We know the game NATO.. and we also know that, in the end, anything lasting longer than 2 minutes, and 2.5 to be sure, is meaningless. The attention span of popcorn eating soda hogs (me being one of them when I actually get to a theater) isn't very long.. We are waiting for the main reason we go to the theater. Do I appreciate trailers? Sometimes. But certainly not all of them...
NATO can do what they want.. Theaters can protest. I have no dog in this fight. I'm fine knowing that even if I'm late I can catch a film.
And if I really want to watch the trailer, I'll watch it online..

A simple one-sentence AP news alert may signal the beginning of a war
The AP sent a one-sentence news alert across its wire services around this afternoon.. This is it:
This past weekend John McCain visiting 'rebels'..
Russia sending arms to Assad..
Israel has vowed to target the missiles from Russia to Syria.
And now this threat from Assad that he'd strike back on Israel if they chose to hit first..
It just seems more and more that we are heading towards troubled times.. Indeed...
Even the simplest and smallest news alerts should cause us pause and give us concern..
BEIRUT — Syrian President Assad says his forces will respond to any future Israeli strike on Syria. The ever-brewing tension in the Middle East may be coming to a head..

Thursday May 30, 2013: News from around the world and beyond
Like always, we will read and weep together...
The Russian earthquake that occurred days ago (the one felt in Moscow) may have been the deepest ever recorded by man.. Does this mean anything to you?? Is something happening to the core of this planet?
A grim future: Could there be Washington state mega quake? The answer is yes..
The New York TIMES will not be attending a Department of Justice meeting because it opposes an 'off the record' session with Eric Holder to discuss the DOJ monitoring of reporters.. Off the record!? AP will not be there either.. The latest report from CNN shows that the media is revolting over this meeting.. All due to this 'off the record' session with Holder.. Even if there's no 'there there' it certainly looks strange. Don't you think?
An update: The Chechen 'suspect' killed by the FBI in Florida was unarmed.. This story has changed repeatedly..
Pedophile who 'killed elderly couple and raped two-year-old' had been released from prison for almost identical attack just HOURS earlier ... This story is disgusting and should not be read by the faint of heart.. it's horrendous just how sick people in our 'society' can so often be.. This story of Jerry Active only amplifies how sick it can be..
Not Sam Wheat.. but GMO wheat.. the USDA has found unnaproved Monsanto GMO wheat in a field in Oregon.. But now that the Monsanto Protection Act was signed... what could really even happen? Either way, lots of people are suddenly angry all over again at Monsanto due to the wheat..
Ready, set, fly by! That big asteroid is about to fly by this planet tomorrow.. And it brings to light the ever important question of what we should do if a big asteroid is set to destroy the earth.. one expert at least suggests that we nuke those dangerous space rocks..
We all know that JC Penny is going broke. So was it really smart for them to make a tea pot look like Adolph Hitler. Really, they did..
The Associated Press profiled Rob Zombie in new article.. According to the AP, the new horror movie reveals he is a 'renaissance man'.. The AP interviewed Zombie to accompany the article.. Author Jack Vance dies...
Pennsylvania horror convention will feature WALKING DEAD and TRUE BLOOD stars.. Here is more information from the official PARAFEST2013 site
Twin sisters from Canada are being called the 'next best thing' of horror for their horror hit AMERICAN MARY.. Even Eli Roth gave them advice on how to pitch their film.. Todd Masters did special effects for the film.. The movie has been called 'feminist' and 'SAW-like' in its sadistic nature..
And speaking of sadistic nature of horror films, I'm just about done with them. Seriously.. The torture porn category should be separated from horror..
I would be remiss if I didn't do this.. a few weeks ago I received an email from my friend over at the CINEMA PSYCHO.. he wrote an excellent article about horror, and about why we watch movies in the genre.. I forgot to link it up at that time, and I am doing so now.. It's a great perspective on the topic, though.. He concludes that we watch it not to see people tortured and killed, but instead to see a survivor win at the end. I agree.. If you look in the past history, there is always a character that we relate to and hope becomes the hero. That is why I am so opposed to the way movies like SAW and others treat victims.. they dehumanize them in order to kill them all in raw and horrific ways.. But zoom back to the classic HALLOWEEN (not the Rob Zombie version) and we all cheered on Laurie Strode.. The CINEMA PSYCHO post addresses that, as well.. It's a great read when you have the chance..
