I'm hesitant about this.. But they may have found flight 370 wreckage

But...

For 10 days now, we’ve been told that the plane veered to the left and continued that way, some reports even say for up to four hours, at least one rumor had it that the plane flew over top of a remote island..
But now they find so-called wreckage off the coast of Australia?

They are not confirming anything yet, but I would be very hesitant to say that this is flight 370 for the fact that it goes against all of the other storylines about what may have happened to this flight..
Unless all the of those other storylines were dead wrong

Wes Craven re-tweeted a HORRORCON tweet  of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET GIRLS 'all grown up' .. Actually beyond all grown up--the NIGHTMARE series was famous in the 1980s through 1990s.. They are horror icons of last century, and many owe their interest in horror to the famed woman of the ELM STREET series..

In the photo: Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Tuesday Night, and Lisa Wilcox. They were the women who battled Freddy Krueger in dreams--and reality--during the long running horror series. Their fame and fortune rests almost solely in their appearances in the famed series started by Wes Craven about the man from nightmares slashing teenagers in their sleep.

NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET was an iconic classic that shook theater goers to their core when it was originally released.  The dark presence of Freddy Krueger eventually got replaced by a more prankster and joke telling mass murderer in later films. But the film's creators mostly chose female heroines to ensure Krueger's passing--before rising again in the next film.

Seeing all of the horror iconettes together is good.. There are lots of horror fans who loved their roles and their abilities to put on a good show during movies.

In some flicks, the horror villain seems to get the more attention. In the NIGHTMARE series, I'd argue that these women were the true stars and actually, if you boil it down, were amazing role models to females who saw the movies.. they never wavered and they never failed, often becoming much stronger than the muscular men who fell victim to Freddy.

I have said it before and will say it again: Horror movies and professional wrestling both encapsulate the generation and society at the time best. What happens in both tells the story of the generation at that moment--what's hot, what's not, attitude, and other things. Stone Cold Steve Austin brought us into the roaring 'tough guy' 90s.. the SAW films perfectly summarized our early 2000s of terror and torture..

And these strong women of the 1980s gave us a reason to cheer.
Even though we laughed at the quips that Freddy told in nightmares..

Death happens every day.. mass death occurs. But we should be used to it or accept it—however do accept it often.

I am struck by the reaction of the world and media to the missing flight 370. We are facing the possibility that the 239 passengers and crew faced an overwhelmingly horrific death—the way they expired may be viewed different depending on which viewpoint you have as far as what happened to the flight itself. But by this point, it would seem obvious that there’s no life from within that plane.

And we are numb to it.
Numb in the sense that we aren’t talking about the lives aboard.. we aren’t speaking of the beautiful children who faced an awful early departure from this realm.. we aren’t talking about the wives and husbands, moms and dads, employees and employers.. The stories of all 239 people have seemingly vanished as much as their flight itself. Gone for good into the memory hole.. Never to be spoken about again.

A mass death occurred in some way, most likely..But their lives don’t seem to matter. They’re just the back story to the Malaysian mystery.

The people who seem to be suffering the most are the families of the missing.. There was a news conference held in Kuala Lumpur with updates about what we know on the missing plane—as far as the news conference, think of it like this: we don’t know a thing and anything you’ve known is wrong. But during the event, families of the missing became frustrated and emotional, screaming out in tears and anger. They were also angry at the response or lack thereof from governmental bodies. As a result, they were swept away as the media watched, families who are going through agony and misery simply dragged away from the news conference in front of reporters.. Even the BBC reported that a reporter from their agency was pushed away from family members carrying banners critical of the government. The BBC reporter, Jonah Fisher, faced a wall of police as he tried to talk to the wailing wall of people..

My point, if any, is that the story of where the plane is and how it went missing is extremely important. And the flight simulator with its programmed routes, along with the sudden movement of Flight 370 itself, are big issues. But the heart of the story are the lives aboard. If a flight carrying no one vanished they story wouldn't matter nearly as much. But a flight carrying so many lives, so many stories, and so many souls, makes this matter much more. But at the same time the media is hardly talking about those lives, and really not permitted to speak to the families of the missing.

There seems to be something rotten in Malaysia. Either the government is hiding something or has simply dropped the ball so hard that the time frame to find the plane is now dwindling to the point of no return.

I am struck by how little attention is being paid to the lives aboard this flight. The images of the children of the disappeared was striking when I saw them the other day. But they are not just becoming forgotten.. missing plane parts are more important that body parts. 

As the families drift into darkness, rushed away from reporters snapping photos, ask yourself this: Are we just accepting of mass murder and mass death? Are we even phased by it anymore? Is it just a side story on the big story? 

War makes news only because of the men who plan war. The victims, often children birthed into a world of heartbreak, are forgotten. Collateral damage. We say. We think.

But what do we really think, deep down?

Are you a bystander in life, just watching mass death from a distance? Did you lose your connection to humanity, thinking what happens “there” will not affect here? What happens to “them” is less important than “us”? Ask yourself that..?

The Pacific 'ring of fire' has seemingly awakened over the past several weeks, producing large earthquakes in a number of locations.

This morning, things were no different; Southern California experienced a relatively substantial shake at 6:30am PDT.. The quake registered at 4.7 but was downgraded to 4.4. ..

While no significant damage has yet been reported, vehicles were rocked back and forth in the early morning commute hours..

CBS's local affiliate said that they felt an intense rocking back and forth during the early morning quake. Live during the newcast, the entire set of the news program starting shaking as the helpless broadcasters were shocked during the live footage..  reports indicate that the quake lasted for several seconds, as least..

Since the initial large rattle, further aftershocks have occurred.. LA QUAKE BOT, a programmed Twitter account, gives the latest information on the aftershocks in real time..

A Case of the Paddy's

Last night I posted something that has been getting re-posted for a long time on my personal Facebook page: It was from CRACKED, and it was the '8 insulting ways people act 'Irish' on St. Patrick's Day'.. What sort of astounded me was the reaction it got from someone.. She was hardcore angry over the content. She is Irish, I am just about 50% if you would measure me, so I offered up the article because a friend of mine did and I found it interesting... 

But her ferocious outrage and indignation with the article was obvious from her lengthy post about the author .. corned beef.. and cabbage.  Perhaps I should have linked up this article by Seamus McKiernan on the HUFFINGTON POST. He has dual citizenship, here in the United States and also in Ireland. He is not celebrating St. Patrick's Day because he fears that the events occurring at local watering holes and parades across the US of A have become a 'cartoonish' farce..  He also pointed out that St. Patrick's colors were blue, not green.. and that the good Irish saint may not have even been Irish!

The HUFFINGTON POST isn't done yet.. another blogger, Bill Stieger, writes about the American version of drinking the holiday to death.. He says,

"Do you think I exaggerate? Read the messages on the horrific buttons and sweatshirts these revelers wear to degrade the tribe: "10 percent Irish/90 percent beer," or "Member of the official Irish drinking team!" Check out pervy intonations, like "Erin Go Braghless," or "Kiss my Shamrocks," or my favorite of all: "I'm starting a drunken brawl with the first person who stereotypes the Irish." I mean, please!

Can you name another ethnic group so bent on its own self abasement? Imagine any other culture or ethnic group frolicking in costumes and behaving in a manner that perpetuates the stereotypes of bigots. None do it. But Irish Americans insist on acting like the clowns at their own circus."

For the purpose of appeasing all readers, I'll keep Irish related content to a minimum this March 17th. But my font will still be green because blue just doesn't seem right.. Hopefully that will not offend anyone Irish or not.

The Sunday Morning Sidewalk

Twenty-five nations are now taking part in the search for Flight 370--the wide area is fast becoming too wide to find any sign of wreckage.. The story is still just as gripping. A week ago when we found out that the pilot of the plane had a flight simulator in his house, we were told it shows he is dedicated to his craft. Now that Malaysia said terrorism happened, the flight simulator has made him a suspect.. I still cannot grasp the concept of how you lose a plane, but more importantly, how families of 239 supposedly lost souls, including beautiful children, are dealing with this immense horror.
It's certainly interesting.. there is a running poll ending today on the right hand sidebar asking what you think happened to flight 370.. so far the leader is an 'alternate universe' choice.. About now, that's the only thing that seems to make any sense in this strange and spooky story..

There's more than just that happening along today's Sunday morning sidewalk.. here's what you may not want to know, but probably should, as the weekend's second half begins in earnest.

Crimea is going to the polls to decide if it should be a part of Russia. Turmoil continues to sweep to Ukraine... China is warning that a US sponsored UN resolution could aggravate the situation..

Apple rolled out a new software update to protect against hackers invading your phone. But now iPhone users are angry with the update, saying it drains their batteries, erases their contacts, and flips their keyboards.. Chances are, hackers won't be able to break into a dead phone..

The DARK HORSE in the room

I feel a bit ashamed of something.. In covering horror happenings in entertainment, I missed out on one big thing: Victor Salva directed the new DARK HORSE horror flick..

That movie was released in only a few theaters this weekend ..

Victor Salva's name should be in your horror brain for two reasons: 1st, he was the director of the JEEPERS CREEPERS films, and secondly, the other reason Salva should be known is for his molestation of a 12-year-old during filming of CLOWNHOUSE.  

The VICE article on Salva, linked here, should be read and studied by all.  The parallel with Salva is that his sordid history was what it was, but he still creates amazing horror films with great atmosphere..

I recall back in the early days of the HORROR REPORT. I loved the original JEEPERS CREEPERS, and I felt that it reinvented horror movies after a of 1990s 'know what you did last summer' type trash..
But the whole 1989 CLOWNHOUSE scandal came back to haunt him as much as his films haunted theater goers..
And now, 2014, his crimes yet again get mentioned every time one of his films do..

Should the molestation jail sentence be a reason to trash JEEPERS CREEPERS and DARK HORSE? That you're choice.. but at least you'll know where Salva got his peepers..

Cruel and unusual?

A new pill is going to create a brand new reality--and lots of questions..

Scientists created a pill that will make days seem like 1,000 years.. It's being touted as a new form of punishment to prisoners..Making only hours seem like hell on earth ..

It is certainly an ethical and moral question--is it right and just to make a prisoner face more punishment and torture of 1,000 years? 

In one sense, it could actually be worse than the death penalty for some prisoners. Imagine 1,000 years worth of punishment?

We would create a purgatory or even a hell on earth. But on the other hand, what constitutes as cruel and unusual punishment? Old debates are going to have to be shoved to the side.

We have a new future on our hands.
And the future is now..

These are the first images released of the children aboard Flight 370..

Their beautiful faces speak for themselves.

I wish for a world without tragedy and fear for children. Obviously judging from daily news, this planet  hasn’t attained any goal of goodness or love.

If a horrible accident occurred on board this plane, it’s assumed that all 239 passengers succumbed to their ill-fated demise quickly. I fear that did not happen.. I especially cringe thinking about the plane experiencing a hijacking gone wrong, or something even worse for the innocent people aboard the flight.

Yes, indeed.. those who tune out of heavy headlines may be the happiest. 

I’m not like that. I soak up the news as much as a Sheryl Crow soaks up the sun. And for that, I am typically upset about what some nation or person has done to an innocent child in a dark part of the planet Earth.
