Gratitude of the season

I recently asked people, what are you thankful for. Like, really really thankful for. Minus out family. Minus out friends.. the typical answers include the norm.. I wanted the 'rest of the story'.. the deeper and more covert secrets that lurk behind the exterior face.

The responses I received were interesting..

One person wrote to me, "I am thankful for serving my country." Another simply said, "I am thankful to be sober and off drugs for 11 months." 

We are a people filled with varied personalities and multiple personalities sometimes as well. One man's molehill is another man's mountain. It's all perspective..

I respect anyone's opinion. Especially when they are honest about it, when they are true..

To be able to publicly comment about thankfulness of being drug free takes bravery and confidence. And frankly, thankfulness.

I personally am going to violate my own rule of commentary by saying this first: I am thankful for my friends and family. I am thankful to be a father and see my son grow and change daily. I am thankful for laughter. I am thankful to have a car that gets me to work. I am thankful to have the freedom to type away and have a website such as this.. 
I am thankful for fine coffee in the morning. Vegetables. I love pasta with garlic and olive oil. I am thankful that I have a phone that can listen to Clyde Lewis as I fall asleep at night and podcasts so I can listen to Jim Ross and Last Podcast on the Left. 

I am thankful I saw the second season of STRANGER THINGS. 
I am thankful for each laugh, tear, and emotion that my body feels.

But enough about me.. 
Back to you. Back to your internal secrets, deep down.. the eye ready to blink as you face forward with arms wide open: What are YOU really thankful for?

The Charles Manson RIP conundrum


Charles Manson is dead at 83. That is the good news for some..

 The bad news is how to label it. Let me explain.

 This website often utilizes honorable black and white images to showcase when someone if importance passes away from this plain of reality on the planet earth. I attempt to find a flattering photograph, often from youth or decades ago.. S

omething that captures and illustrates the essence of who the subject at hand is. The photo and small snippet of information is placed into a "RIP" section.. and the rest is history..

 But what to do with Charles Manson? How to label that. Perhaps it's best to do what the NEW YORK POST did. They were able to go to press after they heard of West Coast news that Manson was dead. They led with a fiery red font blazing on the prison photo of Manson:

 

 Maybe do what I heard one radio station do today: Play the Beatles song HELTER SKELTER in the background a they spoke of Manson being dead. Somewhat unfair to the Beatles though, especially since the song is actually about a roller coaster across the pond. I initially was going to use one of those two photos but was not able to really decide:

 

 This may be the same difficulty that TIME magazine goes through when it decides who will be the person of the year. Decades ago they chose Hitler.

In recent years they took a more politically correct tone and did not pick controversial people. But in reality, TIME should be picking the most important person of the year.

Not the safest. Charles Manson was potentially one of the most important criminal figures in the past 75 years. Ironically he was not able to be tagged with the actual crime of murder, at least not during his tenure overseeing the sex and drug cult that worshiped him in the mountains near Las Angeles. The crime wave among Hollywood stars during the 'Helter Skelter' days was frightening.

 There are countless documentaries and books that suffer the duty of reporting on the horrors and murders that took place, including the most famous: Sharon Tate and her unborn child. It was a new kind of evil. The trial and ongoing drama that was displayed as members of the Manson cult came to prison in support of him shocked the entire country.

The United States saw Charles Manson as a certain evil incarnate. One that was not able to be understood. In reality, Manson had a horrid childhood with really awful adult figures. He had a life of petty crime. His mother was a prostitute.

He tried making it in music but as things would go, it never quite happened. Instead, he became famous for a very different reason. It seems shocking, but there are a number of websites showcasing Charles Manson apparel.

From shirts that feature his face to even socks that come equipped with his name. One website in particular is running a special on merchandise now that he is dead. That is tacky. Probably much tackier than featuring an "RIP" with this website post.

LASVEGASNOW is running a piece on John Lear.. It's a good read.. among the information: The doctors prescribed him 120 oxycodone and methadone pills a month for his chronic pain symptoms. He remained on the medication for almost five years, until the doctors abruptly cut him off and forced him to detox alone. John was cut off his medications for a failed urine analysis test in 2016. It came just after the Center for Disease Control (CDC) updated their opiate prescription guidelines. The doctor told him that he tested positive for methamphetamines and could no longer prescribe him medication. John says, "I've never taken an illegal drug. I've been flying my entire life. you can't take drugs and fly. I wouldn't know how to get it, wouldn't know how to take it and here it ends up 10,000 nanograms in my urine." In his time with the CIA, John says, he was "subject to drug scans, scheduled or random, and never failed one." He believes his urine analysis test provided a false positive. It is a problem that has frequently occurred with urine analysis tests like the one he took.

Midnight fading on the desert? Heather Wade posts ominous message

MIDNIGHT IN THE DESERT host Heather Wade posted what appears to be a potentially ominous message for fans of the late night radio show..She wrote that she is unsure how long the program may last. She gave a heartfelt thank you to all who gave support.. and finally finished by saying it was the most fun she has ever had..



Wade was thrust into a strange scenario when Art Bell abruptly quit December two years ago. Those who recall the HORROR REPORT coverage of the ordeal most likely recall that he reported gunshots were being fired during live programs, that his life was in danger from an intruder to his property in Pahrump Nevada, and that he was ending his program over fears of his safety.  

Wade stepped in and, over the past two years, has evolved into a permanent radio host of the program, picking up a strong fan base and listenership. 

However, numbers may not be enough behind the scenes to support the program. 

While Wade is not commenting yet on the hundreds of public reactions her Facebook post received, some are questioning why Art Bell himself can't pick up a night or two, or even weekends, to boost the potential money problems.

Bell has given a courtesy post for the show many times over the previous two years, and also heralded Heather Wade as a great radio alternative to Coast to Coast AM's George Noory..

Bell's messages through the years have been mysterious and reassuring.  For fans of MITD, Heather Wade's is ominous and alarming..

A DEAR DAVID DIARY GETTING WORLDWIDE ATTENTION

I am completely terrified, enthralled, and perplexed by the DEAR DAVID Twitter stream being penned by New York writer Adam Ellis. He is known on Twitter as Moby_Dickhead.  And suddenly he is captivating publications all over the world..

It began in August. He said he had a dream about a boy with half of a head.. He said his apartment in NYC was being haunted by a dead boy. . . At some point he learned that the boy's name was David. Dear David, actually. And you could only ask him two questions. If you asked a third, he would desire to kill you.

And the rest became a Twitter stream of nightmare potential.

The last update was last week. Nothing since then.

There are currently 559,000 or so followers who have been watching the accounts of Moby Dickhead. Waiting for another enthralling update.. waiting for another photo. Another glimpse into the apartment of the haunted New York city dweller.

And YES! Many people have said how it's fake! It's a fraud! It's a hoax!
...that's the fun. It's fun because even if it is a fake or fraud, the hat has not been tipped yet by Ellis. He's going with it.. watching the worldwide attention.. And if fake, enjoying every minute. If real? He should really think about moving as soon as possible.

This story has Slenderman potential! With the attention Dear David is getting, there are two possibilities: It's fake and it's a new version of promoting an amazing horror story/ or it's real and SHOULD be made into a movie.

Regardless of the intentions of Ellis, it's thoroughly enjoyable.

...and somehow is penetrating pop culture.
The other day my son, now in the 1st grade, came home and told me about Dear David.

Sunday bloody Sunday: Random acts of atrocity are the new normal

The only thing really known so far about the horrid news yesterday from Texas: The gunman, identified by law enforcement officials as Devin Patrick Kelley shot and killed 26 people at a Baptist church and injured about 20 more.. 





Among the dead: A 5-year-old. The pastor's teenage daughter. Conflicting reports still indicate that a 2-year-old may have been among the dead.


Also conflicting: How the shooter died. Did he commit suicide and die in a ditch? Did the cops find him after a high speed chase and he died in a ditch? Or did a set of good samaritans also fully loaded end up killing him in a ditch? Regardless of the factual progression of events, the key ending to the short live of Devin Kelley is that he died in a ditch after murdering others.

The usual suspects will debate gun control.. the right will say it's a mental health issue while the left will say it's about the weapons.. Meanwhile, it seemingly does not matter anymore.

Just one month ago, a concert in Vegas was struck by violence with a mass shooting .. though that situation disappeared into the vast black hole of space and time media coverage wise, the horrible event still has ramifications. Along with the yet to be determined reason why Paddock took up arms and killed, we have this: At least 7 witnesses to the event in Vegas are now gone after strange encounters with Death, almost like a diabolical real life plot of a FINAL DESTINATION movie..

This new event could not have been at a worse place: A house of worship. One of those buildings that the lessening amount of Americans who worship still find solace and peace. 

Sutherland Springs Texas has about 360 people or so.. To say small town is an overstatement. It has one gas station, a blinking yellow light, a post office, and a Dollar General. That blinking yellow light may have been the most controversial thing in town. A New York TIMES story details how some in town wanted to change it to a red light because of recent traffic accidents. 

Now the Texas community where quite literally people know each other by name is besieged by media vans and cameras.. The light of the national press corps will continue for a while. Until the next tragedy. Until the next shooting..

And when that occurs, the plight of Sutherland Springs will be forgotten, like so many other places around the nation hit hard by violence this year.

You can let the darkness creep into your mind easily when you watch the daily dose of news and blues. IT's not good out there, is it? At least, it is seemingly not good. Sure the majority of people don't commit random acts of atrocities. But those who get the national limelight, the attention that don't deserve. We know them by name as a rule, and now instead of getting to know the victims, just remember the number. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, schools have been beset by fear.. from office parties to now concerts.. to now houses of worship. No place safe..

The light of God must shine through you in order for you to become Him. The strength is there.. each mind has the capacity to bring goodness into this world.

The only problem is being hit down time after time.

National trauma of some sort seemingly began around 9/11. And never stopped since.

And over the past year, whether it was because of political anger or just strife in general, we have been barraged by news of global earth changes, population upheaval, political recklessness, bombastic bastards, and random acts of violence that far outpaced anything of recent memory.

Yes, this is America the violent. America the disorderly.. the conduct unbecoming of a nation that once was at least trying to unite under one flag. Now, with the flatter torn and continuing fraying, the only thing that seems to bind us together are the tears over hatred and murder. But those tears dry...and when they do? The usual fighting begins anew.

Texas church shooting suspect was stopped by a citizen??

The gunman who allegedly killed 27 people in a Texas church has been identified as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley.. 

Today's mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, was only halted after an armed Texan "engaged" the killer and put an end to the rampage, the Texas Rangers reported. Freeman Martin, a major in the Texas Rangers and a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, says the suspect dropped his rifle and fled after being confronted by a local man who had grabbed his rifle.

One witness told authorities that among those who were shot in the attack was a two-year-old child

First Baptist Church Pastor Frank Pomeroy said his 'beautiful and special' 14-year-old daughter is among dead 

Another witness said the man, who isn't from the Sutherland Springs community, was dressed 'in full gear'
