End times on the The Sunday Morning Sidewalk

I was on one of those 'end times' sort of sites last night. It spoke about 'terrifying events' that are shaking the world.. to its core. While there are times I think the core is shaking, I typically dismiss any end of the world scenario or Armageddon claim that comes by.

But there are certain mornings as I update the HORROR REPORT with the previous night's news, over a nice hot cup of coffee, that I scratch my head in disbelief. Actual headlines so often appear to be more as the storyline of some Hollywood blockbuster..

Whether it's planes literally vanishing before our eyes or volcanoes forcing the evacuation of 200,000 people, I can see easily how someone of religious faith would be compelled to think the jig is up.  The only trouble with that logic is how often in history the jig could have been up.

In reality, end times do happen every day. But it's an individual thing. The one characteristic of life that we all have in common regardless of race color or creed is this: We perish from this life .. and go wherever we do. That's it. We all love and honor different things.. we are all filled with a varied amount of goals. But we all go to the same place when this game is done. Where that is? That's sort of my mission in life to constantly question--I am never satisfied with typical answers, never just 'fine' with believing a Bible thumper's enthusiasm or an atheist's pessimism.. There needs to be something more to life.. and death. Right?

And in that sense, there is one way that the end of the world can happen.. one way that we can exclude ourselves for our inevitable personal Armageddon and instead had a community end time. And there were three chances of that happening last week alone! Asteroids. There were three CLOSE calls to this planet in the last few days..
Keep this in mind Asteroid 2014 EC flew by Earth Wednesday. It was only discovered Tuesday—which would have given this planet little to no chance to do anything at all about it if it was going to hit.
I cannot understand this.. Asteroids seem to be the biggest story that should be focused on by any politician running for office. If a big one hit, it would have a massive impact without regard to national origin, religion, color, or creed.
But instead, stories of asteroids—and all of science—are regulated to the last bit on the local news. Right after sports. A “fun little story to end the night” accompanied by a joke about how the Earth had a ‘close shave’ .. I hate the term close shave.
How about this: News casters should lose the ‘close shave’ analogy and instead report it this way: “The world almost had a major city obliterated today” or “a world coastline almost was destroyed by a tsunami wave today.”  Maybe that will get the attention necessary for this to matter.
Three in one week, and one discovered the day before the potential hit.
That’s not good..
It should be high time for us, as a world population, to understand this: Our wars and our needless hate, our anger and our pointless rage, all won't matter a hill of beans if a large asteroid visits our planet with a mighty blast.
There should be a collective ability for this world to come together and use science and reason to find the objects in the sky that may provide doomsday with our morning coffee. And maybe a way through physics or nuclear science to dismantle the threat or at least lessen it.
You'd sure think that doing that would be our mission. But it's not.
Instead, the 11 o'clock news will simply add on the fun little story about a near disaster as the makeup-faced frauds that read teleprompters chuckle at their--and our--peril..

What if we never find the plane?

The world is on the edge of its seat.. Rescue workers, military officials, a number of nations, and an airline are all desperate to find any sign of wreckage from flight MH370.

The Boeing 777 was at a normal altitude cruising smoothly when it vanished from radar and lost all contact with the known world.

This is a rare disaster.. While there's precedent for a plane to be missing this long--the Air France flight that crashed in 2009--this one is even weirder. This go around, there's little evidence that anything was wrong, no distress calls, and now a mystery of at least four stolen passports .. Malaysia has now contacted counter terrorism organizations about the passport issue on flight 370.

Aircraft are frantically searching the South China Sea for evidence, wreckage, remains.. anything.

There was a plume of oil. But that's it. Nothing else but the oil was associated with that find--and there's nothing much concrete to say that it had anything to do with the flight crashing..

The area being searched has been widened.  Now officials are looking into a possibility that the plane turned back..

This is one of the world's safest aircraft. And it vanished without a trace..
Earlier today I likened the story to the plot of LOST.. now I changed my tune, thinking more it is like it's stuck in limbo, or in some weird Twilight Zone episode.. Or maybe even like Stephen King's THE LANGOLIERS.. the LANGOLIERS was the tale of a red-eye flight across county that vanished from the real world and entered another realm, where giant creatures were eating time and attempting to eat them since they were lost in the middle of two timelines..

While a varied amount of pop culture or horror references could be made, it may be in bad taste since this is a real event with tragic implications. 227 passengers and 12 crew members have families, friends, and stories.. And suddenly their lives are apparently over with their families having to come to grips with not even knowing where they are..

But .. it's just so freaky.
And the notion of the plane itself never being found? There's no secrets on earth that can last for any extended period of time. It would be assumed that some type of evidence or wreckage will be located.. assumed. Assumptions are plenty today.. as a missing airline stays missing.

There is precedent for a jetliner going missing. But it's still weird. »

How can a Boeing 777-200ER passenger jet go missing for more than a day? Turns out, it’s not so easy.
Interesting story..
This is a very troubling situation—and mysterious. A plane vanishing from radar and now, with stolen passports becoming an issue, the question is being asked: Accident or purposeful?
At one point, this whole story reminded me of the plot of LOST.
Albeit the story may have more of a closure than the show LOST did, it still remains bizarre that a plane could vanish from site..
There are oil slicks being studied—but oil without wreckage. Odd again.
Still watching as the story evolves.. But so far it’s been chilling.

Friday night LIGHTS OFF

Breaking news is bad on Friday nights..
Reporters are most likely toasting their careers at a watering house somewhere on the wild streets of LA, New York City, or the houses of evil worship in D.C.

Mean while news breaks.
CNN went live--for a minute.. Then they showed a pre-taped Pistorius special. Now we know all we need to about Blade Runner.
CNN switched to Anthony's PARTS UNKNOWN at 11. That's important.

FOX went political.. very political. Hannity told us why conservatives will win. It was a rerun.

On MSNBC? As usual, they are showing years' old programs about prisoners in their unnatural habitat.

And that's how the BIG three covered the big event of a flight going missing over Vietnam.

Luckily Twitter is burning the midnight oil, tweeting with ferocity from around the world. 99% of the re-tweets are most likely rumor and falsehoods.. but by God at least there's somewhere to turn for people who crave information--information that matters.

Note to breaking news: Stick to Monday through Thursdays. You'll never get adequate attention on a Friday night.

BUT...
There's hope that real reporters still exist. Without makeup.. frantic.. and newshounds. Unlike any talking head you see on the big cable nets.

"We have no idea what happened to this plane"

NBC news reports on a plane lost:
A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 239 people has lost contact with air traffic control and was still missing two hours after it was supposed to have landed in Beijing, the airline said Saturday morning.

The airline told NBC News that a search-and-rescue mission was under way for Flight MH370, a Boeing 777-200, but it said it had no further information.

The flight from Kuala Lumpur, carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members, had been scheduled to land at 6:30 a.m. in Beijing (5:30 p.m. ET Friday).

Boeing told CNBC it was aware of the report and was monitoring the situation.
While it may be a safe assumption that a missing plane is a crashed plane, no officials are at that point yet. As a matter of fact, the airplane vanished from radar over airspace controlled by Vietnam. Malaysia Airline's vice president actually said "we have no idea what happened to this plane."

According to reports, at the time of the disappearance the plane had 7.5 hours of fuel.

The apparent route of the airliner is over land.

Commentators on cable news are proclaiming that it appears the plane has vanished in thin air..
The plane was at an altitude of 35,000 feet. The pilot had reported nothing as far as problems..

The plane vanished two hours into flight..

At this point, FOX NEWS,  CNN and MSNBC are running their typical Friday night television, ignoring the breaking news event. The story obtained 'breaking news' status on CNN until 10pm EDT when the network switched to a pretaped special on Pistorius..

To the internet the world goes! It's where we get the news.
