Epstein called in the ‘extractor’

Maritime records show two suspicious shipments from Jeff Epstein’s so-called “Pedophile Island” to his homes in the United States at two critical times in the investigations into his alleged sex trafficking of girls.

“Jeffrey Epstein shipped a shredder from the U.S. Virgin Islands to his Palm Beach home in July 2008, shortly after reaching a non-prosecution agreement with then-U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta, maritime records show,” The Intercept reported Tuesday. “Then, in March of this year, shortly after a Florida federal judge invalidated that agreement, Epstein shipped a tile and carpet extractor from the Virgin Islands to his Manhattan townhouse, the records show.”

The sad state of summer films?

The summer box office was once the prized possession of movie gold.. They never won Oscars, but they won cold hard cash. This year there were two amazing outstanding films and a few honorable mentions–ENDGAME and SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME and MIDSOMMAR come to mind..

But the summer heat may be colder than we thought..

Todd McCarty writes this in the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER,

From the evidence of this summer, there’s a paralyzing lack of creativity accompanying a growing awareness that many of the blockbuster franchises that have defined the past decade or so are either officially done for or on the wane. No wonder audiences are looking elsewhere for their audiovisual enthusiasms.

As a lifelong film freak, as we were once called, and big-screen loyalist, I take no pleasure in saying this. A decent-enough Cannes this year sustained the notion that vibrant and ambitious films are still being made in various parts of the world, and we’re all aware that lots of the serious — and seriously entertaining — work being done now turns up on small rather than big screens. Still, the lack of imagination and daring displayed by what comes out of “Hollywood” feels both risk-averse and heavily corporate, at a time when the number of “major” studios is being whittled away. And other than for Disney, the idea that a film studio should have an identity is gone with the wind.

I am starting to realize that news repeats.. that information regurgitates. I recall tons of articles from the previous two decades of online world reporting where this very notion has been repeated. Over and over again.

Some movies suck..
Some imaginations are not creative.

But in the end, it’s the way it is..

And quite frankly in a world where movies were supposed to be dead, MARVEL sure had a great summer break…

So we have been there, done it, and bought the T-SHIRT. And sometimes see movies a second time, even in summers when we are told they are all awful.

AP NEWS WIRE: What did Epstein’s famous friends know and see?

Trump Organization attorney Alan Garten has since distanced Trump from Epstein, telling Politico in 2017 that Trump “had no relationship with Mr. Epstein and had no knowledge whatsoever of his conduct.”

Asked about the charges on Sunday, Trump said, “I don’t know about it.”

Epstein was also an associate of Clinton’s, repeatedly lending the former president his jet to travel overseas. Flight logs obtained by Fox News showed the former president took at least 26 trips aboard Epstein’s Boeing 727, nicknamed the “Lolita Express,” from 2001 to 2003. That “included extended junkets around the world with Epstein and fellow passengers identified on manifests by their initials or first names, including ‘Tatiana,’” the outlet found.

“Jeffrey is both a highly successful financier and a committed philanthropist with a keen sense of global markets and an in-depth knowledge of twenty-first-century science,” Clinton told New York magazine though a spokesman for that same 2002 story. “I especially appreciated his insights and generosity during the recent trip to Africa to work on democratization, empowering the poor, citizen service, and combating HIV/AIDS.”

Representatives for Clinton did not respond Monday to questions about Epstein and the former president’s relationship with him.

The White House did not respond to questions Monday about Acosta’s future. The Department of Labor referred questions to the Department of Justice, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Jeffrey Epstein becomes sudden high profile worry for Trump

Alexander Acosta, who is now President Donald Trump’s labor secretary, was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida in 2008 and he supervised the group of lawyers that forged the Epstein deal. Members of Acosta’s team from that period have said that they lacked the evidence to prove Epstein had violated federal law and did as much as they could to see that justice was served. But Julie Brown, a Miami Herald reporter, published a series of stories last fall that raised questions about Acosta’s independence and prompted the new federal probes of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Miami.

Jeffrey Epstein victims recall how pedophile forced sex acts Michelle Licata was just 16 when she...

Michelle Licata was just 16 when she claims a young woman brought her to Epstein’s Palm Beach estate and she was paid to give him a massage.

‘He said, god, you’re just so beautiful and sexy and gorgeous and it was making me feel really uncomfortable,’ said Licata in an interview with ABC News.

Then he wanted me to rub his back, and he kept asking me to go lower and he was kind of talking to me.

Courtney Wild was even younger, revealing that she was still in middle school when Epstein allegedly forced her into performing sex acts.

'I was 14, I had braces on,’ recalled Wild.

'Like, I remember standing in his kitchen … and he also had a lot of girls there all the time.’

Wild and Licata, who were among the victims in the previous criminal case brought against Epstein, 66, in Florida back in 2008, said that they will both be in court on Monday for his arraignment and bail hearing.

The two also expressed their hope that the registered sex offender stays behind bars.

Like father like son..Robert Irwin, son of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin,...

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK staying true to its theme.. PG-13 kid friendly horror this...

Then AP News wire has a good history of Fourth of July past

FROM THE REPORT:

1777: On the first anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, with the Revolutionary War underway, future president John Adams describes a day and night of spontaneous celebration in Philadelphia in a letter to his wife, Abigail. After hours of parading troops, fireworks, bonfires and music, he tells her he strolled alone in the dark.“I was walking about the streets for a little fresh air and exercise,” he writes, “and was surprised to find the whole city lighting up their candles at the windows. I walked most of the evening, and I think it was the most splendid illumination I ever saw; a few surly houses were dark; but the lights were very universal. Considering the lateness of the design and the suddenness of the execution, I was amazed at the universal joy and alacrity that was discovered, and at the brilliancy and splendour of every part of this joyful exhibition. ”

1791: Two years after becoming the first president, George Washington celebrates in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, “with an address, fine cuisine, and walking about town,” says the National Park Service . Philadelphia was the interim capital as Washington, D.C., was being readied; Lancaster had hosted the Continental Congress for a quick, on-the-run session during the revolution.

1798: Now president, John Adams reviews a military parade in Philadelphia as the young nation flexes its muscle.

1801: Thomas Jefferson presides over the first Fourth of July public reception at the White House.

1822: James Monroe hangs out at his farm in Virginia.

1826: Adams, the second president, and Jefferson, the third, both die on this July 4.

1831: James Monroe, who was the fifth president, dies on this July 4.

1848: James Polk witnesses the laying of the cornerstone of the Washington Monument with Abraham Lincoln, then an Illinois congressman, attending. A military parade follows.

1850: Taylor attends festivities at the grounds of the Washington Monument and falls ill with stomach cramps after eating cherries and drinking iced milk and water. He dies July 9. A theory that someone poisoned him with arsenic was debunked in 1991 when his body was exhumed and tested.

1861: Abraham Lincoln sends a message to Congress defending his invocation of war powers, appealing for more troops to fight the South and assailing Virginia for allowing “this giant insurrection to make its nest within her borders.” He vows to “go forward without fear.”

1868: Postwar, Andrew Johnson executes a proclamation granting amnesty to those who fought for the Confederacy.

1902: Teddy Roosevelt speaks to 200,000 people in Pittsburgh. He liked to get in people’s faces on the holiday.

1914: “Our country, right or wrong,” Woodrow Wilson declares at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

1928: Calvin Coolidge (born July 4, 1872) goes trout fishing in Wisconsin.

1930: Herbert Hoover vacations by the Rapidan River in Virginia.

1934: Franklin Roosevelt is in or near the Bahamas after leaving Annapolis, Maryland, on a monthlong voyage and visit to Hawaii via the Panama Canal. On July 4, the U.S.S. Houston’s log refers to the “fishing party” leaving the ship for part of the day.

1946: With World War II over the year before, Harry Truman relaxes in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains at Roosevelt’s Shangri-La retreat, later renamed Camp David.

1951: With the U.S. at war in Korea, Truman addresses a huge crowd at the Washington Monument grounds, marking the 175th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

1953 and 1957: Dwight Eisenhower = golf.

1968: Lyndon Johnson, who favored his Texas ranch on the holiday, speaks in San Antonio about the lack of independence for the poor, minorities, the ill, people “who must breathe polluted air” and those who live in fear of crime, “despite our Fourth of July rhetoric.”

1970: Nixon, in California, tapes a message that is played to crowds on the National Mall at an “Honor America Day” celebration organized by supporters and hotly protested by anti-war masses and civil rights activists. Tear gas overcomes protesters and celebrants alike, Viet Cong flags mingle with the Stars and Stripes, and demonstrators plunge into the reflecting pool, some naked.

1976: As the U.S. turns 200, Gerald Ford speaks at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, then Independence Hall, and reviews the armada of tall ships in New York harbor.

1987: Ronald Reagan, at Camp David, makes a straight political statement in his July 4 radio address, pitching an economic “bill of rights” and Robert Bork for the Supreme Court. On a Saturday, it served as his weekly radio address, which he and other modern presidents used for their agendas.

2008: Bush, like several presidents before him, hosts a naturalization ceremony. More than 70 people from 30 countries are embraced as new citizens.

2010: Barack Obama brings 1,200 service members to the South Lawn for a barbecue. The father of a July 4 baby, Malia, he would joke that she always thought the capital fireworks were for her.

2012: Obama combines two Fourth of July traditions — celebrating troops and new citizens — by honoring the naturalization of U.S. military members who came to the country as immigrants.

2017: Trump goes to his golf club, then hosts a White House picnic for military families.

2018: Another White House picnic for military families, with thousands also invited to see the fireworks.

As presidential historian Douglas Brinkley explained to CNN’s Dana Bash on “Inside Politics,” Truman — at the nadir of his popularity — tried to turn his image around with a similar grand statement on the Fourth of July. And he ultimately decided not to run for re-election at all.

“Very different time back July 4th, 1951,” said Bash. “A big birthday for the president then. And that president was Harry Truman, and he gave a speech on the Mall talking about self-control, patriotism, faith and institutions. Meaning he gave a pretty political statement and speech at that time.”

“Yeah,” said Brinkley. “And Truman only had about 150,000 people there … this was in the middle of the Korean War. Election cycle was coming up in 1952. They used to say he had a 27 percent approval rating. He thought by speaking at the Mall it might bring him up a little bit. It didn’t, and Truman couldn’t run for re-election.”

The End of Tumblr Could Be Near, and Here's Why

The End of Tumblr Could Be Near, and Here's Why:

Banning not safe for work becomes not safe for profit..

Now, however, Tumblr is facing a huge dilemma: Users are leaving due to the site’s ban on porn. Last year, on Dec. 18, Tumblr erased all adult content from the website, and many blogs were deleted because of this. This decision was made because child pornography was found on the site. Instead of addressing this issue head on, Tumblr decided to ban all NSFW content. This had a devastating effect on the website. Between last December and February of this year, Tumblr lost 30 percent of its users. This ban affected many artists who draw NSFW content, as well as those who write erotica or fan-fiction.

The internet has been unreachable in many levels for days … more rumors to add into the mill of speculation:

But the public didn’t find out about the incident until the next day, when Russia finally released a statement about the accident — though two days after the event, the nation still wouldn’t say exactly what kind of sub caught fire or whether it was nuclear-powered.

A possible reason for Russia’s caginess? Multiple sources are now claiming the sub was an AS-12 “Losharik,” a nuclear-powered submarine some speculate was designed to cut the undersea cables that deliver internet to the world.

Defense Department to ban beer and pizza? Mandatory keto diet may enhance military performance!:

The controversial ketogenic or “keto” diet may be the future of the military, some defense officials say.

Service members, and Navy SEALS especially, may have to forgo beer and burritos for skinny cocktails and avocado salad (forget the tortilla chips) if a proposal from Special Operations Command gains momentum.

While a nutritionally enhanced future could eventually be put into effect for all branches, the SEALS and other underwater dive-mission specialists might be the first groups targeted for the change in nutritional guidelines.

Lisa Sanders, the director of science and technology at U.S. Special Operations Command, presented an Ohio State University study that recommends the nutritional change based on the keto diet, which is high in fat and low in carbohydrates. The diet works to deprive the body of glucose needed for energy and forces it to burn stored fats instead. The study was conducted on the university’s Army ROTC cadet population.

The Fourth of July rolling towards the United States .. another birthday for a nation once thought of as a young and vibrant democracy.. What are we today? Who have we become? Did the youthful vibrancy become displaced by something more callous, cold, and engineered by social media masters?

The biggest news of the day appears to be American pride hitting a new low.

Meanwhile NIKE decided it would be great marketing to NOT SELL American flag shoes..

As this nation begins its quest into yet another summer, another, celebration, we will be greeted by consternation and political rhetoric. Anyone tired of that yet?

We will debate social media platforms and how they censor — on social media platforms..

We will conjure up old nostalgic visions of Fourth of July celebrations in the past — only to conform to the modern binge of four walls and no windows that our lives have become..

Fireworks will flare.. the dawn’s early light will glare.. We will look in mirrors of shame and we will do it yearly all the same.

But as times marches to the beat of the drum, the drummers of wars past still echo from front line bloodbaths. Did they die in vain? Did we create shame?

This nation is young. Or should be.. other democracies have all lived lives and died trying.. We are as young as them. And as perilously close to a conclusion.

Tourists from around the world gathered to witness the cosmic spectacle, which began in the morning as the moon crossed in front of the sun and cast a shadow that passed over a tiny uninhabited atoll in the South Pacific and headed to South America. Chile and Argentina were the only inhabited places where the total eclipse could be seen.

The design was created in the 1770s to represent the 13 original colonies, though there were many early versions of the America flag, according to the Smithsonian. In the 1790s, stars and bars were added to reflect the addition of Vermont and Kentucky as states. U.S. flag designs continued to change as states were admitted to the union until the 50th star, for Hawaii, was added in 1960.

Scientists work out what will happen when the sun dies

Scientists work out what will happen when the sun dies:

Professor Albert Zijslra says, ‘When a star dies it ejects a mass of gas and dust – known as its envelope – into space.

‘The envelope can be as much as half the star’s mass. This reveals the star’s core, which by this point in the star’s life is running out of fuel, eventually turning off and before finally dying.

‘It is only then the hot core makes the ejected envelope shine brightly for around 10,000 years – a brief period in astronomy. This is what makes the planetary nebula visible.

‘Some are so bright that they can be seen from extremely large distances measuring tens of millions of light years, where the star itself would have been much too faint to see.’

The rich are betting they can buy their way to a longer life:

Over the past few decades, the average person’s lifespan has risen almost everywhere in the world. In China, the U.S. and most of Eastern Europe, the average life expectancy at birth has reached the late 70s, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, or OECD. People in Western Europe and Japan, meanwhile, can expect to live into their early 80s.

Most rich people, however, are counting on living even longer — a lot longer, as in two decades more than average. In a new UBS Financial Services survey, 53 percent of wealthy investors said they expected to live to 100.

DEAD DOGS FOUND IN FREEZER IN PENNSYLVANIA

This reporting from local ABC affiliate WNEP 16

Investigators found what they call deplorable conditions inside a home where state police seized close to 20 dogs and found three that were dead.
Those three dead dogs were found in a freezer on the property in Susquehanna County. Police took 17 other dogs from the home on Muckey Run Road in Liberty Township, near the New York State line
Troopers say some of the animals seized from that home were initially taken to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter after living in filth.
Authorities said the floors were covered in animal waste. A garage on the property recently burned.
Investigators say the owner of those dogs is self-proclaimed dog breeder Amber Darrow.
A humane officer describes the dogs seized from Darrow’s home as small and medium size and veterinarians are working to heal lesions and skin infections found on the dogs.
Police say they also discovered three dead dogs that were being stored inside a kitchen freezer in the home.
Investigators said Darrow had methamphetamine and other drug items with her.
According to police paperwork, Darrow is facing animal cruelty, neglect, and drug charges right now. It is unclear if she is in police custody.
Humane officers at Griffin pond Say the animals are being moved to an undisclosed location for safety reasons.

Drone flies over Fenway during Boston Red Sox game!

A drone flew over Fenway Park during the Red Sox-Blue Jays game Thursday night .

At this time officials don't know who did it..

Boston Police said it was first spotted around 9:30 p.m. and it took off around 10:20 p.m. Officers and the Federal Aviation Administration are looking into the incident.

“There is an active investigation with the F.A.A. and the B.P.D. That’s all I can tell you at this time but as soon as we get something, we’ll definitely let you know because we want to send a clear cut message to everyone that there is no authorized flying of drones or any major event at all,” Boston Police Commissioner William Gross told reporters Friday. “If that investigation leads to someone being brought to justice, you will definitely know because we need to send that message.”

The kids aren't alright..

The Associated Press is reporting this dispatch...

The number of young kids who went to U.S. emergency rooms because they swallowed toys, coins, batteries and other objects has nearly doubled, a new study says.

In 2015, there were nearly 43,000 such visits among kids under 6, compared with 22,000 in 1995, according to the study published Friday in the journal Pediatrics. The rate jumped from almost 10 per 10,000 ER visits to 18 per 10,000.

The increase "rang some alarms," said Dr. Danielle Orsagh-Yentis, the lead author and a gastrointestinal physician at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio..

Amazon Workers Are Listening to What You Tell Alexa!

The listening team is comprised of part-time contractors and full-time Amazon employees based all over the world; including India, Romania, Boston and Costa Rica.

Listeners work nine hour shifts, with each reviewing as many as 1,000 audio clips per shift according to two employees from Amazon’s Bucharest office - located in the top three floors of the Romanian capital’s Globalworth building. The location “stands out amid the crumbling infrastructure” of the Pipera district and “bears no exterior sign advertising Amazon’s presence.”

While much of the work is boring (one worker said his job was to mine for accumulated voice data for specific phrases such as “Taylor Swift” - letting the system know that the searcher was looking for the artist), reviewers are also listening on people’s most personal moments.

Police: Man buys $8 million island then steals from Kmart

Dumb criminal category for sure.. but maybe a whole new category needs to be dedicated to this?
More..
A man who had just bought an $8 million island off of Key West was arrested Saturday for participating in what police described as a scheme to steal $300 in household items from Kmart.

Officials at Kmart called Key West police April 5 after they say Andrew Francis Lippi, 59, had purchased several items, including a Keurig coffeemaker and light bulbs, and returned the original boxes for a refund. But police say the boxes were stuffed with other items. For example, store officials said a basketball was inside the Keurig box.

Massive gas explosion kills and injures in North Carolina

A stark reminder to call 811 before you dig... a massive gas line explosion in North Carolina has caused at least one death and several injuries..

And it’s a tragic situation..

More..

Zoldos said the cause of the explosion was still under investigation. A contractor boring under a sidewalk had hit a 2-inch (5-centimeter) gas line, causing the leak, Durham Police Department spokesman Wil Glenn said. Glenn linked the boring work to the explosion during a morning briefing, but Zoldos later said the cause was still under investigation.

Dominion Energy said in a press release Wednesday that subsidiary company PSNC Energy had received a call about "third-party" damage to a natural gas line in Durham. A PSNC worker responded, and the explosion "occurred shortly thereafter." The company said additional crews arrived and shut off the gas.

Deputy City Manager Bo Ferguson said boring for a fiber communications network had been underway in the area, but city officials were working to confirm that and couldn't release the name of the contractor.

Blocks away, the blast shattered windows and blew at least one door off its hinges in the Brightleaf shopping district. Ed Rains was on a nearby street and couldn't see the blast but heard it. "I thought someone had dropped a dumpster on the street," he said.

Tracy Telenko was at his desk in his third-floor Durham office when he heard the explosion and saw black smoke billowing up.

EVIDENCE OF NEW HUMAN SPECIES REVEALED!

An amazing day of science...

From the WALL STREET JOURNAL:

In a handful of fossilized teeth and bones, scientists say they’ve found evidence of a previously unknown human species that lived in what is now the Philippines about 50,000 years ago. The discovery deepens the mystery of an era when the world was a melting pot of many different human kinds on the move.
Small-jawed with dainty teeth, able to walk upright but with feet still shaped to climb, these island creatures were a mix-and-match patchwork of primitive and advanced features in a unique variation of the human form, the scientists reported Wednesday in the journal Nature.

The researchers formally named the newly discovered species Homo luzonensis in honor of the island where they found it. They unearthed the fossils from the floor of an immense limestone cavern called Callao Cave.

THE BLACK HOLE REVEALED!

Astronomers announced on Wednesday that at last they had seen the unseeable: a black hole, a cosmic abyss so deep and dense that not even light can escape it.

MORE..

“We’ve exposed a part of our universe we’ve never seen before,” said Shep Doeleman, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and director of the effort to capture the image, during a Wednesday news conference in Washington, D.C.

To capture the image, astronomers reached across intergalactic space to a giant galaxy in Virgo, known as Messier 87. There, a black hole about seven billion times more massive than the sun is unleashing a violent jet of energy some 5,000 light years into space.

MAY DAY IN UK! WEB CRACKDOWN ON THE WAY!

While interest groups who campaign against cyber bullying and child pornography are applauding upcoming web changes in the UK, others are becoming fearful of how far the government will regulate..

There are coming changes to the online world in Europe.. Great Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May said that the era of self regulation is over.. Cyber bullying and porn online has become too free.. too much... the government, the citizens of the UK are told, is the onl group of honest barrons who can save the citizens from the freedoms of their speech..

A white paper on online harms, published jointly by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Home Office, proposes strict new rules be introduced that require firms to take responsibility for their users and their safety, as well as the content that appears on their services.
Overseen by an independent regulator, internet companies which break these rules could even see senior management held personally liable for the failings.

A newly introduced duty of care would require firms to take more responsibility for the safety of users and more actively tackle the harm caused by content or activity on their platforms.

There is an upcoming “12 week consultation” for the plans..

They would apply to ANY COMPANY that allows users to share data... share posts..

Facebook and others would face huge fines and penalties for the allowance of users to share suicide or self-harm posts../ And most likely much more as time goes on.

Just as price increases by governments get passed down to citizens who pay prices to private firms, this will work the same.

Social platforms have already increasingly regulated speech of its users—they have the privacy policies that allow it... and in a sense freedom of speech does not apply when a private company is your platform ... the government is not regulating YOU.. but THEM.. AND they will have the freedom to regulate your freedom.

See? This is how it works in the gutters of the socials... in a world where we gave all of our freedom and rights and photographs to a corporate social structure that now will be highly regulated by the government of the UK in a Chinese style of censorship.

In the name of consumer mental health and safety...In the name of a good deed....

Deadly germs, Lost cures: A Mysterious Infection, Spanning the Globe in a Climate of SecrecyThis is...

This is a scary story..

More

“The man at Mount Sinai died after 90 days in the hospital, but C. auris did not. Tests showed it was everywhere in his room, so invasive that the hospital needed special cleaning equipment and had to rip out some of the ceiling and floor tiles to eradicate it.

“Everything was positive — the walls, the bed, the doors, the curtains, the phones, the sink, the whiteboard, the poles, the pump,” said Dr. Scott Lorin, the hospital’s president. “The mattress, the bed rails, the canister holes, the window shades, the ceiling, everything in the room was positive.”

C. auris is so tenacious, in part, because it is impervious to major antifungal medications, making it a new example of one of the world’s most intractable health threats: the rise of drug-resistant infections.

For decades, public health experts have warned that the overuse of antibiotics was reducing the effectiveness of drugs that have lengthened life spans by curing bacterial infections once commonly fatal. But lately, there has been an explosion of resistant fungi as well, adding a new and frightening dimension to a phenomenon that is undermining a pillar of modern medicine.”
