If this was the era of 'cheap food' I hate to see what prices will be

WONDER IF MITT NOTICED THE PRICES!?
There is a big family party going on today.. Labor Day weekend, grilled chicken, burgers, hot dogs.. all the trimmings such as corn and asparagus. The last meal of summer.

And for  us, along with anyone else out there doing the cooking, you'll know this: It is getting more and more expensive to go grocery shopping.

Orders that once cost you $150 can easily top $400 now.

Food was once as cheap as gasoline. I recall fondly filling up my parents' car I'd be taking out for a date in the late 1990s.. it was a Chevy Corsica. And it was about $10 for 10 gallons. Not bad. If I was dating now that same tank of gas would cost nearly $40. And dinner and a movie would take my way over $100. Call me a cheap date but I think I'd cancel..  Perhaps that's why, too, those days of teenagers 'cruising' the town are over.

But the sad part of the rise in food prices is that it will affect the poor more than the rich.. and it will squeeze the middle class even more, making them stretch their budgets .. Spaghetti was once a cheap food.. as was rice and chicken. . . those days are gone.

Also gone are the dozen for $2 corn deals. We need that corn for other things, after all. No, not feeding the poverty stricken children in third world nations? No sir re.. instead we need to make gasoline! Ethanol! even though it may ruin your engine and cause you car to run worse, no bother.. we will take fields of corn and it use for gas instead of food. That's thinkin'!

And now with the great dust bowl of 2012 in the midwest United States, the food price situation will only be exacerbated.

Here's news for whoever didn't know this already: The era of cheap food has been gone for a while. And it is only going to get more troubling and much, MUCH, less cheap in coming years..
