A&E is hoping for high ratings for a four-hour miniseries set to be broadcast on its network. The title is COMA and it is based on a 1978 thriller.. the 1978 movie was actually based on a 1977 novel. A&E's new idea isn't novel, but it's updated a bit.. medicine has changed since way back in the Carter Administration. It will start Monday and wrap up Tuesday..
The subject of the film: Peach Tree Memorial Hospital has a high amount of patients oddly falling into comas. Families are told that they are being transferred to an advanced care facility, but they are really becoming the subject of research and experimentation that pushes the boundaries of medical ethics.
Online reviews for the program have been mostly positive.. The majority call it fresh and entertaining.
But the irony of this minimovie coming out now is there: Obama care and an election occurring, with debates fresh on front pages about what health care should do, and what health care should be. Medical ethics? Been there and done that. But caring for patients?? What should we do to people in comas? WHAT did we do to Terry Schiavo at the beginning of this new century?
Is the real subject not to trust anyone!?
Perhaps a slam on Obamacare? No, not A&E..
Maybe eugenics 21st century style?
Maybe the film is more truth than fiction??
Should be an interesting mini-series should you be inclined to watch it.
Sometimes the scariest fiction is that which is closest to reality.
