One would have to question the logic, in hindsight, of having a convention during hurricane season in a state that gets hit with hurricanes. As one comment on the HorrorReport.com said earlier today, it's like booking a convention in the winter time in Fargo, ND..
There are not yet forecasts that speak of where Hurricane Isaac, not yet a hurricane, will strike. However, Accuweather is among those watching closely and report tonight this:
The worst case scenario from a Tampa standpoint would be if Isaac were to swing over the Gulf of Mexico, strengthen, then curve northeastward toward or just north of the city on the Florida west coast. However, even a northward path directly over the Florida Peninsula could still yield nasty local effects produced by squalls.
It's all speculation at this point..
Forecast tracks are still closely being monitored by weather experts, Tampa residents, and now the National Republican Party..
There is another chance, of course, that this storm could completely avoid major cities and the GOP convention. But the fact it is meadering around in the Atlantic Ocean deciding where to go is newsworthy..
The most recent track from the NOAA has the storm hitting Cuba by 2PM Sunday..
From there.. Mitt Romney and lots of others will be watching..
